well, no offense but we ain't heading for your neck of the woods! weather looks absolute shite on your side of the lumps this weekend
haven't decided, it's just a chance to get to know the bike better (2-up) and let mrs yod try out her new seat - probably just see where it takes us and/or follow the crowd
edit: feel free to bowl on over and meet the beast if you want, just flick me a text when you're heading our way

Well, for the past 3 hours I been in the shed with big bum RF....
Some research work was required. Ever since it was dropped off I noticed an erratic idle and akward riding at low speeds, was running rather rough untill she got up above 3000RPM...
I found out the the RF is renouned for wearing the needle jet due to the angle the carbs are mounted....
So, being the true boy I am, have only had the bike one week and apart she came....Under close inspection, I have some ovality coming in which is causing the rough running... Now, being the clever bastard I am I had two options of quick fix untill I can get onto the dealership on monday (waiting on the verdict so they can start repair action).
1. Drop the Jet needle down one knotch... or
2. Lower the float level by 1mm.
Now, here is the stink part, the carbs Suzuki used on the RF's are a non tamper carb for emission standards. There for dropping the Jet Needle was a no go as it only had one setting, and to adjust the float level the carbs would have to come right off... hhmm so what a pickle I was in..
I inspected the Jet Needle again and noticed a very small rather thin shim on the under side... I thought well, what can it hurt, I will need to eventually do a carb overhaul anyway so I removed the little shim which dropped the Jet Needle into the needle Jet by a small amount.
Ok, so with that done it was time to put her all back together and run her up... Right away the idle seemed smoother, not so erratic.. So on went the gear and away I went...
Results are ok, smoother riding at low rpm and a better idle.. She feels like all 4 a re firing round intersections not just 3..
There is still a little hiccup but not as bad...
So now the next move is to get onto the dealer for some sort of action, whether they can supply new parts to repair properly..
I am kind of hoping the way to go would be fit a set of factory pro emulsion tubes ( needle jets ) and while there I am hoping they might even supply a factory pro jet kit......
Anyway, thats how I spent my evening, how did the rest of you manawatu buggers spend yours????????
I spent mine having a latte at Cuba, picking up a car I was given, and watching TV.
Hmmmm, I hope you get the RF going soon! Wish I'd seen itGood on ya for dealing to it so quickly, wish I had those skills. Must learn them soon
