The CDI shouldn't draw much current to my knowledge and the coils will be pulling 8A I think, it's been far too long since I actually had to think about these things at $20 I can't complain too much if it fucks out, the voltage gauge i've got on the ZZR will warn me if it goes before I burn loom and boil battery. That's how I caught the bloody thing today thank goodness.
I'm just wondering, with the 16.6 or so volts at low RPM getting through, there must have been a lot up top, the coils wouldn't be able to cope would they? Hence why the BRM V16 had to run 6V coils, due to 12V taking too long to make a decent flux. That's how i recall it anyway... So I doubt it helped much...

The battery is still fine and hasn't gotten hot enough to lose any electrolyte So will get a new Reg init and pop around to steal that voltage gauge

sounds like a plan, dunno about possible coil damage, the CDI would be more of a worry anyway I think, but if it is still good, the rest should be too I reckon.

If it fucks out it gives me more motivation to get a 600 motor

I'm having a stroll through www.reuk.co.uk and they have a few schematics and info on how to build shunts. But, it would cost me more to make a shunt with a bridge rectifier than it would to buy a shitty reg/rec I'd like to do it though, it looks fun, plus it could be mounted in a box with a fan

yeh, I been wondering how hard it would be to make a switchmode supply and eliminate the need for burning off so much power altogether.

As in switching the alternator on/off? there have been cases where electro-magnets have been used and they just switch on/off when needed Quite ideal really, that way the stupid regulator is going to last longer. Perhaps way of killing the input to the regulator without sending the 45V straight to the battery?
This could be interesting to do

No switching adaptor switch the supply (hundred thousand times a second or more) through an inductor which generates a set output voltage regardless of the input voltage. Though my stator theory is somewhat lacking and I'm not sure of that would be kind to the stator, there may be a reason it is used as a constant power generator.

Went for a wee jaunt up the track today whilst taking the scenic way home from uni. Sore wrists and arse instantly
Buuuuut, it was one of those rides, the sore wrists and arse could not dent the perfect ride feeling! I was part of the bike, flowing and smiling like a mad c*nt. It was absolutely brilliant, haven't fel so happy and comfortable on that bike before.
On a boring note, I am going to re bleed the brakes tomorrow to try stop them from being wooden, there is nigh on zero indication of a front end lock up
Such an awesome ride! Might do it again if the weather is so great tomorrow.

Ordered a new Reg/rec for the ZZZZZZZZZZZZR today.
Got a tank protector for $1.26 and Honda decals for the CBeast also for $1.26
I might jump back on eBay and grab another tank protector, one for each bike

Nah, just showing off the farkles that day (forgot to stebel ya as I went past ).

Did a pretty boring loop actually - although the little bit of Route 52 & Pa Valley Rd etc was really nice! Great at this time of the year.

I wrote this up earlier today and put it on my BookFace, pointless as more people here will appreciate it and understand.

Gassed the bike up after uni today and went for a great ride. Put what I had read in "Twist of the wrist II" into practice.... And what do you know? Smoother, more stable and faster riding. Less stress on the arms, wrists and mind.
Found a few survival reactions were stronger than I thought. Using the throttle to manipulate the weight bias on a bike is just brilliant, what a massive difference it makes.I was having problems with front end feel and confidence. This was too much weight on the front end, backing off the throttle into the apex was making the Honda run wide, which triggers the reaction of tightening the arms and weighting the bars, this sets the bike of it's natural balance and the front looses feel and goes even wider. By being relaxed and having all my weight anchored against the outside of the tank in a corner the bar weight is reduced and the wheel/tyre/suspension are free too oscillate and move as they need to.
If you ride and haven't read the books, get off your arse and do it (I have number two in PDF form and can email to anyone)
Looking forward to getting even smoother and more confident.

    Part Two!
I went out this evening just to carry my grin inducing euphoric moment further again, ended up doing 340km Just riding, the bike and myself, happy as that twat Larry. I kept practising the throttle control, sliding my arse off the seat BEFORE I drop the bike in, not during ( No wonder the fuckin' thing hated me...) and generally trying to start the process of obliterating 160,000km (I think, may be more? I've just clocked up 10,000k on the CB as of today) of dumb fuck mistakes and habits.
I am fairly confident my body positioning is correct, not twisted away from the bike, either up or down.

The bike is feeling so much nicer to ride, I did the tyre pressures as per norm today, only 1psi out each end, not a worry!
As I type this I am not worn out, I've got all my "I am Rossi, watch me break my pelvis and get nerve damage" business going on and the semi numb, semi tingly fingers. But mentally, I didn't get worn out and I did not once pump my arms up.
My shutting the throttle instinct got me once and in comparison it felt wobbly and wanted to run wide, usually I'd stiffen up (Tehehehe), but I made myself stay relaxed and gently roll on, then I could tighten the line and carry on.

Fuck I can ramble....I want more rides! I am off to Eketahuna on Sunday so I can look forward to that. If you read all this you must be bonkers.
