On that note, big ups to the Vic club and their track time at Manfield. Well organised, the right price (FREE!), and plenty of flag Marshals out there for those that went down - and quite a few went down with all that water everywhere!

On foot you also realise how dangerous it is on that corner - people were zooming past at well over 100 only a few feet away. I would have felt more comfortable if there was a Marshal waving a big yellow flag for people going into Castrol.
twas you? Sorry about that I thought you were Darryboy. See what happens when we use these name handles instead of real names ! haha.

Yeah I didn't feel very safe either. Guess we were lucky. I didn't know they guy who crashed but if it happened there again after that experience I'd think twice about stopping and hope that someone else would......which is pretty sad eh? We should be encouraged to help fellow fallen bikers, not intimidated into thinking "feck that I won't stop next time".

Yeah, I did stop and helped move some of your gear across the track but I didn't manage to tell the track guys of the incident. Hope the dudes alright.

One guy on a CBR even went by with his wheels skipping on the ripple strip with the throttle nailed. For all I knew at the time this guy could have been dying and having to worry about moving someone with possibly a broken neck etc because SOME riders wouldn't give us a safe berth was pretty dissapointing. I don't know who the culprits were (well I know the bikes) and once again not any kiwbikers I knew but if it was you -come on dudes - calm it down a bit! There are no marhsalls at those days so we need to take a bit of extra care....
I wonder why the session didnt get red flagged after going round for about 4 laps with guy still lying there on the deck. we couldve just gone out after it got sorted. clearly the guy was hurt.

Top marks to You guys that stopped to help him out.
I had just arrived at the castrol grandstand and was waving like a fuggin idiot trying to signal the riders to slow down. I was amazed how long it took for Gary to get his ass out there. I've met that cbr rider a few times out there & he's a nice guy. As far as the guys speeding past the scene only feet away.. man that's slap material in my book. interesting to note that the crash bales were lined up BEHIND the armco where he crashed in preparation for track time on Monday. Gary had specifically told them not to put them over yet, because of the cars.

Nice to know a car's $80 is worth more than a bikes $80....thos bales would've saved CBR250 dude and probably some of Hoon's damage too.

    sigh.

Hmm, the wonderful world of Puke?

Until I chucked it away, I was having an absolute ball. the ex race Supercorsas I have on are unlike any tyres I've had before. Unbeleivably grippy and a huge increase in stability under acceleration and braking. Was hitting the brakes as late as I have ever done and still had room to improve.
It was a bit crowded but it wasn't really a problem till I over extended myself going in to the hairpin and forgot to look away from the CBR1000 that wanted a slightly wider entry and what do you know, I ended up bumping fairings while hard on the anchors and had a wee bit of a highside. Pretty annoyed at myself for not allowing a bit more room or refocusing when the guy in front changed lines.

    Big cheers go to
750y for the race fairings - definitely worth the money! Not much too anyone good now tho.
Aff-man for helping me fit the fairings and the crash bungs
KK for picking me and the missus up and carting us+ bike round. You the man!
Quasi for patching me shoulder up.

the bikes looking a little sad but should be on the road in the next two weeks I hope.

sorry to hear you went down CK,Highside ouch! glad You're ok. i hope the bike's ok & glad the fairings & bungs came in handy... sounds like they did their job. I still have one fastener at home. If it's not too bad I'm sure they can be glassed up again.

    Hi All,
I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the people who helped me out at Puke, I was the dork who binned the CBR250 at Castrol . Also, sorry to everyone for causing a hold up when track time was already limited that day.

I don’t have much memory of the crash, I just woke up on the grass wondering what I did wrong. Did anyone see how I messed up? I don’t want to make the same mistake again .

I haven’t seen my bike since the accident, so I haven’t got any plans for it yet. I am looking forward to getting used to my brand new titanium reinforced wrist so I can get back on it eventually though.

    Thanks again.

Hey man, Its Chris here (Black RG150)... How are you???? what happened to the wrist??

I believe people said it was a lowside. Possibly digging the peg in too deep... Bike is still rideable (some guy rode it back into the pits) so that is looking good

Your not a dork mate... crashes happen when your on/pushing the limits...

Glad you joined KB too How long before you can get back on the bike??

Hi Chris, nice to meet you again (and everyone else from here that I run into at these things) on saturday. I'm great, back to work this monday, no worse than a bad cold really .

A few things in my wrist got disintegrated/rearranged, but the docs say it will eventually be fully right. I'm kinda lucky I got knocked out, I didn't feel any real pain until after my operation on thursday. I don't know how it happened but my neck is pretty gory, good for halloween . I should be able to ride again in about 6 weeks when I lose my cast and can fit my hand in a glove again.

My helmet and gloves are impressively trashed, but my leathers look almost new (big thanks to the people who got me out of them before anyone decided to cut them off me ).

Thanks for the good news about the bike, the ambulance crew (who along with all the middlemore staff were great) dragged me away before I could have a good look. Depending on the cost to fix, the cbr250 will either be back restored as my daily ride (I clearly have a lot more to learn on a little bike before upgrading), or it will sit as is in my garage next to whatever cheap R6/gsxr600 etc I can find. I've been thinking a little about the suggestion a couple of the KB guys made about making it an SS150 bike, but I can't really afford a tow vehicle and crashing a 45bhp bike on a dry track is not good for the confidence. Hrmmm, puzzling crash, I wasn't pushing quite as hard in the last session because there were so many bikes out (which was great to see) so I (think I) was just gently touching the pegs down, I do remember taking some weird lines through the esses and castrol trying to give people plenty of room when passing, maybe I hit some marbles or something. At first I thought I high sided because I hurt my left side, but apparently thats where I bounced off the wall .

I have to thank everyone that helped again, very much appreciated, I don’t think my first post conveyed my gratefulness enough.

hey dude! good to read that your going to be sweet as!

And yeah them KB'ers are pretty good huh! - Sorry i didnt see you come off but i came off in a F3 race there only a few weeks back but fortunatly enough i must have by the time my back end came around to overtake me been far enough around the corner to pretty much just slide down the backstraight and off to hte side a bit-no wall hit.

Dude from what i hear (Sorry didnt catch much of you myself, yah blitzed me!) your a pretty quick rider - but yeah mate i think theres always learning to be done even if it is on a 45hp bike! Anyways take it easy and all the best!

-oh also - dunno if you remember but i had 2x Bright yellow VFR400's out there, so hey!

Mate what you need is a 400, i dont think you can push that CBR much harder at all.....

For your riding style going from a 250-a 600 is manageable but is still quite a big jump.... where jumping on a 400 is comfortable, just a little more weight and power (about 65hp and 163kgs...) so either way it would be a good choice, but i dont reakon you should cross out a 400.....

Glad your on the road to recovery and hope too see you at the Feb track days.....
