    Smile First Post-Suzuki RG150ES modifications

Hey guys, i've been riding dirt bikes for a few years now, but am a newbie to road bikes. I have just bought my first, a Suzuki RG150ES. At just 36hp, this thing is absolutely gutless. I have a mechanic friend and am planning on getting him to bore it out for me and remove the rev limiter. Anyone got any other ideas to give this thing some guts?? Cheers!

ps: has anyone here taken one of these bikes to its top speed?

Honda Country in Ashburton had one of these on the dyno and it had 25 rwhp

removing the rev limiter just means you'll blow it up sooner, if you want to go faster buy a bigger bike

They'll respond to the usual things, carb, decent pipe, porting but without someone who knows what they're doing making the modifications chances are you'll just end up with a bike thats worse to ride and blows up more

    welcome big fulla,
hotting up the little fella still might not scratch that itch for more power,
i'd trade up for a bigger donkey,if your comfortable and compedent with your road skills move on up,ever thought of dual purpose or motard your offroad skills would compliment the riding style needed, lot of fun too.
just a thought, all the best- RIDESAFE-

I think the general consensus from Oyster who preps all the RG150's for streetstock south island was that although you can wring a wee bit more power out of them, they're significantly less reliable and generally not worth the effort.

I think they're pretty decently tuned from scratch, well for a 150 anyhow. Sure somethings not up with your RG?

They're completely gutless until about 6k because of the nature of the flatslide carb and 2-stroke combo, but from about 7.5k up it should haul for a wee 150cc.

The powervalves in your one might be stuffed which would cause some pretty crappy performance. Might be worth checking out. Oh yeah if you mean top speed as in the speedo top of 240km/hr you're dreaming mate haha. They top out at about 180km/hr on the speedo - which is easily off by 20km/hr anyway. So about 160 maybe, although the one I was on at that speed was still pulling (vaguely tho) when I ran out of straight at levels.

It's not all about big hp numbers either, they're reasonably light and pretty flick able great fun. If you wanted pure numbers and speed you should've gone for a 250 2T if you're a learner/restricted or gone racing on a 125GP bike or something. Capable of some pretty good corner speeds and lean angles from what i've seen of some guys in streetstock.

Oh yeah one other thing, remove the limiter if you like but they drop off in power in the last couple 100rpms as it is anyhow anything past that would just be pissing in the wind without other mods probably.
