    Blah Cleaning mice balls...

Yep thats right... I need some help cleaning mice balls.

I have had my Apple wired mouse for some time now, but the only thing that bugged me was the ball. Now its a 360 degree scroll ball that also doubles as a button. Due to the "funky" design, the ball quickly attracts gunge and blocks up inside and it stops working. I pulled it to bits and cleaned it all out, and it worked fine again for a week or so before needing cleaning again.

I got talking to a guy at big boys toys last year at the Apple stall, he said that I should have just returned it and got it replaced! Oh I thought, great! I get a new mouse every week! So I made the investment of buying the Apple wireless bluetooth mouse... (very funky!) low and behold.. a couple of weeks later the ball started to play up. ...off I trotted back to Magnum Mac, only to be told "wear and tear, sorry". Crap. So I ask how the smeg am I meant to clean the bloody thing without pulling it to bits and voiding the warranty???!!!

I was told to use a damp cloth and rub the ball from the outside to clean it. (that just sounds dodgy) ...but it doesnt work!

What could I use to clean it?? Meths?

Two weeks (even 6 months) is NOT ACCEPTABLE for them to say "wear and tear, sorry".
    No, not on at all.
It's not fit for the purpose, force them to take it back. That's the only way they'll learn.

Yeah thats what I said to them, but they told me it was "wear and tear" and not covered under warranty - ie regardless of how long it took for the wear and tear to occur.

...doesnt help my dirty balls though!

Bollocks it's wear and tear. I've had mine for a year and use it all day with no problems. It's not getting all sweaty with you surfing porn is it?

I often have dirty hands you see... from being up to my armpits in car grease... that or eating and surfing the net at the same time... gets all sorts all over it...

If all else fails, contact the Consumers Complains Commission or whatever they are called

And get yourself a wireless OPTICAL mouse. Then you only need to wipe the bottom off once in awhile. And have you thought about getting non-apple mouses? My ibook took my cheap $20 optical mouse I had on my PC no problem

It is a wireless optical mouse. The ball is on the top, it is a fancy button.
