Well as now the links are sorted

this is becoming a ride of all sorts have comformation that some of the freedom riders and union jack social club from Gisborne will be meeting us in Opokiti and I know of one kber from gisborne who will also be there

So when I have the final numbers I will be looking at splitting the group into groups 0f 5 or 6 riders per group for some of the sections to accomadate rider ability and for the saftey of all

So a simple idea is taking place of bringing fellow motorcyclist together on a weekend where old school bikes are mingling with late model sports bikes its not a competition but a chance to enjoy the freedom of our way of life

Honestly, I wouldnt worry about splitting the group into smaller groups. These things have a way of working themselves out, especially over distance. Let the natural order of things dictate the order of the ride. Over organising will slow the ride down and make for more stops.

just doing a bit of a work out on recent rides. Now we are getting a little nortorious for the frequent stops on the rides and while averaging close to 100km.hr on the move our averages for total time are ranging from 55km to 61km.

Day one ride on this trip has been mapped at 785k. My mapping program does not have auto routing so can be about 10% out so worst case is day one could be up to 863km.

At an average speed of 55-61km.hr that makes a ride time of 14.1 -15.5 hours for day one.

Considering that we intend to leave at 6.30am that makes our arrival at gisborne between 830pm and 10pm.

    So one of two things.

    1. raise the overall average times by limiting stops to every couple of hundred kms. This means that the group WILL break up on the trip and each rider will be responible for knowing where and how to get to the next checkpoint. I dont think that we can raise the average speed by simply riding faster.

    2. shorten the route.

    Thoughts.

    less smoke breaks

Dont stress yet I have it all sorted as you can see on the maps there are loops all those loops are optional extras and in short if time permits

am allowing 5.5 hours to Rotorua so if we aren't there by 12 the afternoon section will be shortened

Oh lunch is 30minutes only in rotorua

ok. I am fine with less smoke breaks. Seriously. Just looking at the route and times required. Will will have to average 87km.hr to make the 5.5 hours to Rotorua. That is fine and should be do-able.

I am just sitting here wondering if those contemplating this trip are aware of the time restraints on it.
