    Router login help.

    Howdy people.

I have the dsl g604t shit router.

For some reason the default passwords are no longer working.

I need to login to forward a port.

I do NOT want to reset the router as getting all the settings correct is a complete bitch, and I'd have to ring tele-sux-my-ass-while-i-rape-your-bank-account-com and wait 4hrs to talk to someone who has no idea whats going on. Last time all i wanted was the settings for the router, but it took him 1hr to figure it out.

Is there any way to get around router passwords? I'd prefer this convo to be held in PM, but what ever suits.

    Running xp if that matters

Do you think someone could of changed the password from default? (i.e., i got haxd?) This happend after that weekend recently where tcom fall over.

    Thanks for your help,

    Rm

The G604T has wireless capability doesn't it? Do you know for sure that the password that you set on it worked, and now it doesn't?

Basically, if someone was connected to your network, then yes, quite possible to change the password, if they knew what they were doing (just the same as you could change the password).

afaik, no way of accessing the password, without having a valid log in into the router. In the future, its best you save a config file of the router (most decent routers have this ability).

They won't know how to bypass the password feature either, standard procedure is to factory reset the router, so no point even calling them.

Yeh, that won't have anything to do with it either.

Unless you want to try throwing some kinda cracking software at the user/pass dialog box then you've gotta factory reboot it. It'd be quicker to re-enter your port forwards than try to hack into it.

I've called some of them, and they don't even know the stock manufacturer passwords...

I have your router (read my sig ), and no, there's no way to reset the password without doing a hard-reset on the router (unless you know the new password of course).

The router has wifi, so what's happened is somebody (maybe your next-door neighbour, or somebody out wardriving) connected to your router, found the default password worked, and changed the password so you can't lock them out in future if they want to connect wirelessly.

Moral of the story: you're a complete tit for leaving the default password on your router.

I've had my 604T with the default username/pwd for about 3 years. If the Wifi security is set to WPA with a 7 character password then it's not hackable.

As for changing the password from the internet, how is that possible without changing settings as by default it's limited to the local subnet?

I fixed it, the hard reset takes 10mins, not 30 seconds. (reset button is broken)

Also I remebered I had saved the set upfiles (a must) so I could get back on the net straight away.

    SORTED.

Well the d-link router i had, and many others have vulnerable defaults.

Not with the G604T, it really is limited to the local subnet if you want to access the router configuration.

You probably could crack it, but it is running a reasonably secure version of uC-Linux, not some awful homegrown D-Link-designed OS, so it would take a pretty reasonable effort by some smart people, not your average script kiddie.

A 7 digit WPA (not WEP) key is fine as it's not like you can try thousands of key's per second over wifi.

The 604T isn't a bad unit and I never get callouts for them dying or losing their settings like the 302/502's. Brought mine from the UK and it's been faultless. Not many of them suffer from the power surges that happen a lot around here (the Linksys stuff seems to die at the merest hint of a spike). Copes with my crappy 63Db upstream/downstream (13Db downstream margin yikes!) line attenuation also. Add a decent external antenna and the range is decent. The only thing that $hits itself is the DNS relaying tables seem to get full if you're doing P2P stuff, setting the client PC DNS servers straight to the ISP's seems to work fine.

the 604t is good in terms of connection. But the interface is so freeking complicated and i hate it for ever. Dynalink modems are WAY better by a long shot (note havnt tried wireless ones). I love dynalink, i hate having my little 1 pc dynalink sitting there going "you should so use me im better than that d-link" but i can't use it as no one else can connect through it .

I told my dad "DO NOT BUY THE D-LINK" and what does he do, goes and buys it when telecom were giving them away for free!
