Off to find a gps I think.
every vehicle (cars and bikes) i've tested has been high, usually around the 5-7% mark

Post GPS check on an FXR

I just went out for a ride on a straight road with my GPS to check the speedo...

It's odd, it doesn't seem like a percentage.
At 50Kph on the speedo, the GPS reads 40.
At 60 on the speedo, GPS reads 50.
At 81 on the speedo, GPS reads 70.

It seems more like about a 10Kph incorrect reading rather than a percentage.

That makes it easy. Just subtract 10Kph and that's roughly your speed, on the FXR, if it's like my one. Have yet to test it at 100Kph....

I noticed the DR650 speed reading is around 10% high compared to my GPS but the two odometer readings are very close over long distance.

I have'nt checked the bike speedo against the GPS apart from at 100kph courtesy of Meanie and my speedo read 104kph.
I have checked My GPS against the car speedo though and at 40-60kph the speedo was deadly accurate but above that the discrepancy grew, at 100kph on the GPS is 110kph on the car speedo at it seemed to keep this discrepancy further on up in speed to xxxkph.

Yup that is about right cos I did 110 on my FXR and it was 100.

    Speedo Healer

Well, I just ordered the new V4.0 Speedo Healer online from Ozzy:
    http://www.amcmotorcycles.com/index1.html

So we'll see how quickly it arrives, and how well it works.

I just checked, and the speed sensor on the FXR is on the front wheel, near the bearing. the wires follow from the pickup to a 3-wire connector, which the Speedo Healer will plug straight into.
