So y'all gunna come round and burn ma trailer down y'all? Is that what y'all saying?

So has anyone on KB actually had their head kicked in by someone they've flamed?

I know many people on here are pretty au fait with online communities but for me KB was the first. I'm not that techie with computers. No point since the price of ICT personnel went through the floor. I imagine that with the amount of KB meetings people are far too likely to meet and therefore flaming tends to be reserved for people that you actually know and are frindly with in real life...there are still exceptions however......

    Interesting.
I read it and thought to myself that we don't really have arguments and flame wars on KB that are that extreme. The mods generally put a stop to things after it goes a bit too far. It sounded to me like that site Yafro was unwilling or unable to put a stop to things.

Yea pics make it peresonal. I can remember posting one of mine during one of 'Finn debates.' I had on my cowboy hat and someone said I looked like something out of the Village People.

I saddled up the Goose, headed on up the highway to the straights, and shot myself in the groin with my Colt 45 water pistol. Pistols at dawn?? Not me. Don't want another frozen cock.

KB is pretty polite, shock-horror!. I'm talking in the day-to-day stuff -- like in Big Dave's thread on finding a CB1100R pic, Nudemetalz has just corrected Merv (I think) on whether the photographed model was an RB or RC.

If somebody had made a mistake like that on, say, Slashdot.org, Nudemetalz' correction would have been nowhere near so friendly or nicely phrased. Instead you would get something full of condescending arrogance, calling into question Merv's background and credentials as a motorcyclist, and asking what tertiary institution he graduated from. Then of course, Merv would respond with a similarly sarcastic and biting reply, referenced with quotes from Ivy-League research papers.

Funnily enough, that's just the norm -- people don't actually mean to be so offensive, I think, it's just the normal way of interacting. Users very much enjoy the act of flaming. I know I have. KB, because of its nature (very non-technical and non-geeky -- KB is kind of a Forums for Dummies thing), is much more representative of real-world interactions. Occasionally I slip into `classic forum' mode and out comes my inner flamer-geek, but for the most part I interact on here just as I do in real life; I think most other members would say the same, at least to some degree. The same would not be said for Slashdot or Kuro5hin.

Because of the high likelihood of coming face to face with another KB person.

And we already know each other in lots of cases so you can be piss taking and we all know it's just a PT.

And besides you're far geekier in real life.

    Well put that man

Shit it's a sad state of affairs when something said online gets to burning down someone's home.

The scary thing is it looks like it could happen to anyone as you never know when the worm will turn and in who

A big Thank you to Marty at typeface for sponsoring me to have a go in my first race

I sort of missed flaming when the rules were a bit less enforced. I still get tempted now and again.............but the majority here applauded the new regime so now I keep my hands in check. Still I do believe that KB has lost some of it's 'vigor' as a result. But I'm still here................it's a good crew.

Stay sharp stay cool and most of all stay alive.
