Tank bag issues

Hi all,
I own a 05 Kawasaki 636 and I would love a tank bag for it, as it is really anonying having my pockets full of stuff like wallet, keys, phone & other bits and pieces. The issue I have is that with the 05 Kawa, the front half of the tank is a plastic cover, therefore the good old magnetic tank bags dont stick. I really had my heart set on the ventura Mallory tag bag, but it doesnt stick that well at the front of it due to the plastic.

Has anybody else had the same issue and how did you over come it? or has anybody got any ideas on this?

I have Plastic tank on the Daytona

so my best option was a clover tank bag as it has suction pads to grip the tank which you screw up and it seems too stay in place rather well

the only down fall I have found with the clover tank bag is that the waterproof cover went hard and cracked rather quickely

but overall the tank bag is good and although I have a sports option $180 you can get and expandable option too $230 prices are approximate

I've got a magnetic tank bag that I don't use because

a) it can come loose at over 120kph, which though I'm a fairly conservative rider, even I go faster than that when I'm overtaking
b) the magnets are really strong and can fuck with your digital cameras. Not recommended.

I'm looking at taking it to a canvas shop and getting some straps sewn on instead, and taking the magnets out.

I have 2 tankbags.. one magnetic.. & the other has straps that are tied around the tank.. & the bag clips onto it!

I will have a hunt for the suction clover tank bags and the strap on types. cant say that I have ever had a "strap on" bag before

Hi there, we have an Oxford tank bag on the Triumph Sprint, the base of it attaches with straps, one around the bottom of the tripple clamp and the others, under the seat and around suitable bits of the frame, the tank bag itself zips onto the base and has shoulder straps so you can remove it and use it as a back pack. Works for us!

Magnets have a nasty habit of stuffing credit cards, so be careful about your wallet in a magnetic tankbag.

Ive got an oxford tank bag. I used to use the magnetic base on the old RF900 and I have bought the clip base for the same bag to use on the Aprilia's plastic tank.
Takes a bit more set up time but works well.
Ive found there gear well constructed and takes a heap of knocks.
I have lost an oxford tail bag off the back of my bike at 100+ kmh and to cut a long story short it ended up living for 3 months in a tree over winter before I recovered it and all the contents was still in good condition. Even my cell phone still worked!

wow you lot reply quickly. Well I'd hate for my credit card to be wiped, so i may have to opt for a strap on........bag, that gypsy bag looks good. However not a great fan of fluff anywhere, prefer my bag to be fluff-less do you have a pic of the top side of that bag MyGSXF?

May so also follow those oxford bags up as well, hope they arent too tall, its all a very good excuse for another ride up to the hamilton bike shops

One other thing, with the strap on bags, are they easy to fit, do the straps go under the tank and will I have to remove/loosen the tank to get them on? or do they go around the tank?

you choose wisely

I used that tankbag when I had my old XV750.. which was really easy to fit it onto.. but I haven't actually tried it on my current plastic fantastic.. sooo umm.. I can't tell you what effort is required to fit said straps.. possibly may have to tank the tank off.. Once it's on though.. ya just leave the straps there.. & unclip the bag as required!

I got a cheap 'Can' bag for $50, it has two ears that are magnetic, but it ended up in my lap at 130km/h a few days after putting it on. It has two plastic triangle doodaas each side, I ran a bungee under the tank (carefully) and attach to the front two lugs, it hasn't moved since. It's bloody brilliant having somewhere to put all the stuff I used to jam in my pockets!

Of course.. you DO realise that tankbags were actually designed as a biker chicks version of a handbag!! don't you...
