A nice story to show that cops don't suck

A guy from a car club forum I'm on posted this up this morning, thought I'd share it here to show that the boys in blue don't deserve only abuse!

Interesting event happened last night. My son and I went up to Manukau to attend a concert at the TelstraClear Arena and while we were there, he started getting sicker and sicker, hot and cold flushes, shivering, sore neck and head etc. We decided to head home after only 45 mins in the
concert, so I hit the motorway with a view to getting him back to Hamilton quickly to our local A&E.

I was just past Meremere, doing around 120ks, and I saw a cop on the downramp of the Hamptons Downs exit who obviously spotted me and decided to chase me. I pulled over and waited for him as he had to go further north to where the median turned into grass so he could U-turn.

He pulled up just in front of me, so I got out of the car, went to meet him and explained the situation to him, asked him if he could escort us through to Hamilton, and he agreed.

The trip from Manukau through to Hamilton was over in 50 minutes as most of the trip was done at 130-140ks.
Was nice to have the blue/red flashing lights on in front of you instead of behind. Most cars pulled over and let us through, but trucks were a pain and often took ages to respond.

He led us all the way up to the ED at Waikato Hospital and even got a wheel chair for my son who could hardly walk by this stage and was nearly delirious.

After testing for the worst (meningitis), it turns out he had contracted some virus that absolutely knocked him for six, and is now home, bedrest, fluids and paracetamol.

Big thanks went out from me to the officer and the police radio control operator named Jill who contacted the officer while on route to Hamilton to divert him to Waikato Hospital as a result of my *555 mobile call.

Story over, all are safe and getting better after a night of dramas.

Nice one!

In my opinion, all frontline coppers should get a twenty grand pay rise effective immediately.

that way you'd keep the good ones and get good candidates applying again.

I nearly fell off my chair when I found out what my F.L. copper mate in Queensland was getting, and she was a senior sargeant.

After 10 years she'd had enough of the shit pay and was moving to insurance investigation. I assume it's the same problem in NZ.

I got pinged by a cop recently, overtaking in a cage on a passing lane. Got me at about 134km/h, but he only did me for 113km/h.

There'd actually have had extremely good grounds for appeal had the officer decided to be officious. Whilst it would have been a speeding charge and not one of the boy-racer type ones, using the vehicle in a serious medical emergency (which this certainly could have been) is listed specifically as grounds for having a car released from impound. I'd wager it's probably a pretty decent excuse in court.

Still, this doesn't change the fact that the officer used common sense and not only ignored the speed they were doing (with justification) but aided them in what could have been a nasty situation.

That's a great story and shows everyone using their heads and getting the job done.

Now some scrote will use that when its not an emergency to try and bullshit a cop, maybe the same cop. Then we'll all rant because the police aren't nice all the time.
