    Chain damage

Short version is that the sheepskin off my seat came off when I stood up to fart and it fell into the chain. I'll wait a moment until you stop laughing.

It chewed the sheepskin of course and took the chain off the rear sprocket but fortunately nothing was jammed up. I got the chain back on easy enough although there was a fair bit of slack in it. It doesn't appear to have been obviously damaged although there does seem to be a very slight kink in it when you look along the length of it from behind the bike. What should I actually be looking for to indicate damage? (The chain is only about 10000km old)

I'd say that kink is enough, out it goes.
Lucky you didn't bin it when it got chewed though! My bro's chain came off and it jammed the rear wheel, he came skidding to a stop, somehow miraculously kept it in a straight line until he stopped. He was only doing 50 at the time though.

Why stand up to fart? My seat smells like oil and petrol and chain lube as it is. If it really honks, just spray some WD40 -- air freshener for the garage mechanic

I don't know shit, but I'd stick the bike up on the centre stand and whirl the rear wheel around in neutral. If the chain runs smoothly and doesn't clunk or tick over that kink, then it's OK. But it does sound a bit toasted.

It was a biggun! I thought if I tried to just sit on it it may have launched me over the handlebars.

Sure it just hasn't pulled the back wheel out of alignment?

You are lucky you did not end up with a rear wheel lockup at speed, it could'a hurt a whole lot.

May have done but I did tighten the chain the next morning and checked the alignment as best I could. I think I'll still biff the chain anyway just too be sure.
