Best route to and from Auckland to Hamilton??

    Hey all,

I'm not sure if this is the place to post this thread but I am heading down to Hamilton from Auckland tomorrow morning and was wondering if someone could please suggest a better route to and from Hamilton rather than staying on SH1. Heading down I'll probably just stay on the SH1 but coming back is when I really wanted to find some new and more exciting roads if anyone can suggest some I would be grateful. I usually only ride north of Auckland so anything is better than SH1 which is all I really know heading south. If you want to come along for a thats cool too. Route posts and PMs most welcome ahahahah Thanks and sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question.

    Cheers
    Aa7

Auckland to Pukekoe, Pukekoe to Waingaro using State Hway 22, Waingaro to Raglan (even a tiny [1 or 2 km max] amount of gravel in there for ya) Raglan to Hamilton via state hway 23.

A personal favourite ride of mine I must say, just got to watch state 22 in a few places, the surface has been jnown to be shit in places.

For the record Qkkid was in my bed, not the other way round

But that could cover it because now it's potentially a group ride...

There is SH22 which is nice, but better yet there's Kawakawa Bay, Kaiaua, Cambridge and Hamilton.

Another time you could utilise the road from Clevedon through Hunua for part of it.

If you don't already own it, buy the "New Zealand Motorcycle Atlas".
Very useful for planning trips over interesting roads.

Thanks for the heads up on the book I'll look for a copy and get it for sure. I dont really know my way around the areas you have suggested so I'll swerve those until I get the book. I think we went through Clevdon a few weeks back on the way home from Coromandel with Zapf, Gremlin and YamahaR64life and it was good fun but how I'd get there again without following someone who knows the way I have no idea ahahahah

How do you get from Clevedon to Hunua? Can't find a way on the map?

I was going to suggest Auckland - Hamilton via Kerikeri but I see people have gone and made sensible suggestions. Jeez KB standards are slipping

rode with Aa7 to hamilton via Sh22 today (riding with two ho's...hahah), with a detour to waiuku to see some friends. great road but quality aint so great. lots of gravel crap and animap crap on the road but it was still fun. came back via sh1 and OMG is that the most boring piece of road or what. sure it gets you from hamiltron to aucks real fast but whats the fun in that.

Keeps the cars off the myriad of cool roads on either side of SH1. I really like heatherington road. Try it some day.
