The GC and the 'REAL' 1000 miler.

Up until a month or two ago, I had never heard of the 'REAL' 1000 miler in the South Island, only the Rusty GC. How many years has the South Island 1000 mile Ride been going on for?

Only a certain Alexandrian has the cheek to call the Chatto Creek 1000 miler, "The Real' one. 41 entries last year compared to the capped 130 on the RNGC.

Having said that, I'd be in this year if it didn't clash with an MDA ride.

This year will be the 11th for Chatto Creek. And yes, I was being cheeky calling our one the REAL 1000 miler compared to the GC. However the rules are very similar: 1000 miles in less than 24 hours.

Anyone done both & can compare? My thoughts are that if the weather's ok in the South it would be easier than the GC due to primo roads with less traffic? Also, the GC always takes in some slower back roads which add to the challenge. Do you mainlanders do that?

I definitely want to do the Chatto Creek at some stage - love those South Island roads.
