Paparazzi is back, sans number plate

After much swearing, ranting, and pondering I've managed to get my bike back in a road legal state.

By road legal I mean I'm not riding it around my neighbourhood with no mirrors, headlights, indicators, licence plate, brake lights, seat cowl or seat.

To reward it for sitting neglected for a month I fed it some tasty Silkolene pro 4 plus synthetic oil ( 4L for $50! Ha! That was a bargain!)

I've got enough movement back in my right wrist to justify a short ride (still getting fatigued / vague easily due to the concussion from my bin) and took it for a spin along the north western out to Tamaki Drive and back.

Went to put it back in the gargre and realised it was without it's numberplate.
I knew my memory hasn't been too good since my knock on the head, but I thought I'd double checked all the fasteners on the bike.

Unfortunately my WOF was attached to the plate as well. Went for a long and fruitless search for it in the car, but to no avail.

Does anyone know what to do from here? I understand I can get a new numberplate, but does anyone know what to do about the WOF? Is it possible to get one reissued, or do I need to shell out some more $ and get it rechecked for a warrant?

Do you think I should report it to a cop shop, or will getting a new plate issued sort that out?

    :spudwhat:

    Yep

I asked about this a while back. Just go to a place like VTNZ, and they give you a new rego plate, rego sticker and sticker holder all for I think $8.50 !

They also re-issue WOF's for a small processing fee (well, normally, depends where you got your's WOF'd)

    Cheers everybody for your advice.

I went to VTNZ and got it all sorted. All I've got to do now is drill some 'oles in the plate and fix it to the bike.

In case anybody wants to know the costs/procedure:

The form to fill out is "Application for replacement plate MR6A"
The cost is $8.80 and for this you'll recieve a new number plate, registration sticker, and registration sticker holder.

For a duplicate WOF sticker the cost is $7.50, and $3.00 for the plastic holder.

So all up $19.30 to get it back on the road and a new number plate for my poor feeble mind to try and remember.

I think I'll rivet it on this time..

I lost one of the front of a cage once, got a call from the AA a week later, somebody had turned it in. (I wasn't in a hurry to replace it)

    Hey, whats going on? :spudwhat:
Thought if you were on this site and crashed your bike, you just flag motocycling as too dangerous and head off to the dried flower arranging class?
At least thats what seems to happen lately?
Good on ya, mate, for getting back out there

I've had to deal with a few friends (maybe ex-friends now, depends whether they've disowned me over it) whose first response has been

"Your not getting another one are you?!?!"
to which I've replied that the one I've got is still rideable.

"But your going to sell it right??!!?!?"
No, I'm going to ride it..

Like I said in Zed's thread, it comes down to personal priorities and obligations. I don't have a wife and kids to worry about looking after if I stacked it big time, maybe if I did I'd think twice.

A few days after the crash, when I wasn't able to walk or oppose my right thumb I did contemplate whether I should give it away, but by that time I was missing riding already and trying to work out how to ride without being able to articulate my right wrist.

Luckily I couldn't fit a glove over the cast, else I'm sure I would have tried to get it out on the road.

I'd guess I was doing 100+ km/h, and if I had have hit one of the trees on the bank it quite possibly could have been but then we all know that. And we aren't going to live forever anyway (please no theological discussions on this topic here)

I still don't know why I crashed, I don't remember entering the left hander, only being on the outside of the corner and trying to lean it back onto the road, then going down the bank. Whether I don't remember from the blow to the head, whether I sneezed entering the corner and closed my eyes, I don't know.

But I've had enough time to think it through and come to believe that my reaction would be to lean it over further, so it's going to have to remain a mystery.

Maybe if I have another mystery crash I'll reconsider whether I'm suited to bikes, but in the meantime I'm going to try and find out what my potential is.
