Squeaky Shock

The rear shock on my FZR is more than squeaky, it's lowder than the bike while idling. I've been meaning to do something about it but some rusted over fairing screws have prevented me. I plan to drill through these and replace them, so I must move onto the shock. I don't think a little oil is going to help such a noise but I'll give it a go. If not, any ideas? I don't really want to fork out for a new one, but if one must..

Im assuming your shock is all good ? it works as a shock not a moonhopper ?
check every thing else first, if it is your shock before you replace it PM me. I know a guy that can rebuild them (better than Before) thats not too dear. Mine was shagged and I paid 215 to have it rebuilt better than original. If there is bad damage tho it can get dearer. My bike actually handles now

It's more likely the linkages - it does have them? See if there are any grease nipples and if so give them a shot,if no lube points spray with WD40,or whatever is your favorite drop.

I agree with motu --itll be linkages BUT I wouldn't use oil on it.
Id suggest you need to pull all your linkages to bits and remove all the corrosion off all the bolts and bolt holes,-there WILL be some. I would then lube the bolt shafts with a good high heat rubber lube. -actually moibdeum disulphate would probably be perfect.
the bolts need to turn FREELY in the holes.
You may even find that some bolts have seized and the tubes are spinning in the rubber.
The idea is to get everything moving freely.

I'm sure you mean this sort of stuff: molybdenum disulphate, or moly-based lithium grease.

Great for doing your steering head and wheel bearings too...

Does your rear shock work Magua? Mine ......... ummmm .............. Kinda bottoms out sometimes and is as hard as it can go on preload. I don't think my 70 kg ass is toooooo fat. Thinking of fixing or replacing it. Apparently PBS (performance bike services) in Chch are pretty onto it. One day when I am rich and famous I will afford to fix it, but till that time I just have to ride within the many limitations of my bike.......................

Work? Dunno . It's certainly SHIT compared to the shock on my GN125. I think it may be past it's used by date. I'll have a look through some local wreckers for one. Trouble is they usually have 3ln parts rather than 2kr.

Don't know if I would buy one from the wreckers. Lets face it, they stopped production of the 2kr SIXTEEN YEARS AGO!!!!!! Best options are to rebuild or replace. Anything second hand is likely to be just as old and decrepid as what we already have!!! I agree about the shock being shit though. Wonder if a rebuild would solve that?? I'll let ya know one day when I can afford it
