I don't think he can blame his pit crew. They did exactly the same as Franchitti. Just that Dixon ran about 20 laps in his last stint out front, no slipstream = more fuel consumption. When he went up to the banking for the final time what was left in his tanks went to the highside of the car and lost feed into the engine. Cruel cruel luck but thats part of the game. He'll be back next year.

Obviously I'm a biased Jock, but Franchetti has humped Dixon all year. Dixon took out Franchetti last race and in the race prior to that Dixon's own dumbass teammate smacked into him (after he'd let the whole race) so I guess the end result is pretty fair.

Hope it's a close battle like this next year though.

    Bummer

Bet the team boss don't get his bonus, all it took was another sat 5 seconds fuel to go in,therefore they get to finish.

Still remember him racing at Puke when he was about 13yrs or so,didn't have road license but gained dispensation to race, went out in a car leased from Max Pennington and rolled it early, still recall a chubby kid crying as he was taken away(and spanked by mum lol),has come along way since that fatefull day,the talent obviously there at that age.

    What a BUMMER.

I guess some consolation, - sponsors and scouts will still realise his talent and skill. He was very professional about it - I bet there's some "redundancies" in the w'shop tho, 'specially missing the $US1M ++ prize dosh

There wasn't room for another 5 seconds of fuel. They filled the tanks to the top. Just plain wasn't meant to be. From where I'm standing there was no other way around it. They pitted at the same time Franchitti pitted, just the fact that Dixon lead for 20 or so laps in the last stint meant he had higher fuel consumption. So I guess the only thing the team could have done is got Weldon to lead for these laps but just letting him past Dixon could have been disasterous. Was a very hard track to pass on etc.

    There's always next year.

As for talent scouts, lol. I doubt they are looking too closely. There is only one higher step as far as championships go and thats F1. Monetarily I think Dixon would be happy to stay in Indycar for the rest of his career. I think his chances at F1 are gone now anyway.
