    A student-friendly mechanic

    Hey all SMCers,

Just thought I'd pass on some details of a trusted mechanic friend who has quit his job at a leading Akl Motorcycle shop and set up his own business.

Mike can do WOFs, mechanical and electrical repairs and even rebuild engines. He's been in the game for over 30 years and has helped me with all of my bikes over the last 2-3 years.

Mike is happy to give a discounted hourly rate to our club and has no hang ups on bikes that are over 10 years old (or scooters).

    Mike
    Ph: 360-7940 / 027-499-3964 (don't txt tho)
    35 Crummer Rd
    Ponsonby

    Cheers!

This would be good. I am still too afraid too mess around with my new blade as it has got sensors and cables everywhere compared to the carb engine blade. any idea how much he charges on WOF?

Nah dunno his price for WOFs sorry - I think I paid $25 last time...?

Another bloody awesome guy I know for suspension:

    Tjebe Bruin
    Ph: 480-9408
(North Shore - works from home).

This guy rebuilt my rear shock and gave me a used (but firmer) spring for $220!!!!! That included new seals, oil and whatever else they do when recondintioning a shock. This was an exceptional price, I rang around a lot of places - AND Tjebe is one of the rare guys that isn't afraid to touch old shocks i.e. the RF is 10 years old and most shock rebuilders were reluctant to take it on.

My bike is now riding like a dream, hopefully for another 40,000 miles!

with his name being Tjebe Bruin, I would have thought his initials are T.B.

Ewen, I saw your bike at Mike's when I was droppping off my KTM today - hope Mike is able to fix it at a reasonable price. Check out the TRX850 on KB - the guy is now open to offers below $3900!
