    as for weather:
remember we (they) cannot reliably forecast more than 3 days ahead, and as a westie i tell you now they have no idea about what's happening in the ranges (nor woodhill) - i'll check the surfaces for roadworks/gravel/holes on saturday
One of the discs is bent. It was always like this since I got it. I haven't got around to replacing it since

    1. It isn't that bad
    2. I have no idea where the front end of my bike came from
    3. When I rode up and down my street, using only the back brake to stop, I noticed one of the discs was slightly warm and the other one was cold. Is this sorta thing normal after you install new brake pads?

So you can use a spanner to bend it back? I thought the only way was to replace it? I heard skimming isn't a good idea since the margin of error is only 0.5mm.

^ Yep, thought as much. Ive started a new thread in the mechanics section so I can find out what bike those discs are from so I can get replacements.

    1. maybe, but do you really want to find out the hard way? like a wet corner
    2. doesn't matter
    3. ideally replace both front pads at once (should wear at same rate too), new pads can get warm when you first run them and it can take a while for them to fully settle in if your disc is badly worn and scored. If one disc is warmer than the other, get a whiteboard marker and scribble all over both sides of the disc, then spin it once. you'll soon see how bad it is/isnt and where it is.

THEN, with a spanner (not pliers cus you'll damage the disc) you can very carefully correct it. alternatively you SHOULD take the disc off and replace it, or get a measuring table (perfectly flat surface) and get it back into shape

my spanner method is really only for bad bends that need fixing in the carpark on a ride, for roadbikes you'd really want to do it properly.

i've got a spare vfr400r nc30 disc that might fit you - it's bent though

I'm going out now to rape the hell out of my brakes (I.E. bedding in) and see if the problem fixes itself. When I put hte pads in there was some pretty vicious squealing but after about 50 km of stopping hard it went away.

do u know how to bed in the brakes? i hope you are riding it at say 50km/h and then gently applying the lever for 10 seconds then let go to cool it off. Am i making sense?

^ Yep thats sorta waht I did. Drag it for a few seconds, let it cool for a few seconds. Still making some noise though, but I guess thats to be expected with worn as rotors.

When I came home, I noticed the right rotor was pretty warm compared to the left one which was cold. I think the right one is warped.

All my CBR's had like a light buzzing sound when applying front brakes. I think it is normal probably depends on brand of pads used. Who knows the sound might go away after 100km's. A warped rotor will cause shuddering when brakes are applied. Get it sorted cos if it is serious might fail WOF. I would say those rotors are the original CBR400 rotors as discussed in the other thread

Shuddering at high speeds and pulsing at lower speeds... trust me if you have a bent rotor you'll know it, plus it should be pretty obvious to the naked eye if you jack up the front of your bike and give the wheel a spin.

I rode my single front disc SRX400 for 6 months with a slightly bent rotor and then sold the bike he he he. It was more an annoyance than a safety issue. There's a guy on Trademe based in Waihi who makes rotors. You send him your old one (to keep) and he sends you a new one. His prices were $2-300.

^ Yep that's it. Thing is I don't have a pit stand etc. It does shudder at high (motorway) speeds, and pulses at slow speeds (When I come to a stop at the lights or a stop sign). I knew it needed replacing right from the start, but thing is I really can't afford it. Honda discs are like $400 each. Might as well get some EBC ones from the states eh.

I replaced my front brakes with new disks and pads last May just because one off them was i think bent, i was being stupied trying to do a stoppie thats how i think i bent it. Cost $675. They still squaeek alot unsure why even with out pressing the brakes they squeek even when am riding slow i can hear the squeeking. I went to mt eden m/cycles and asked them to check it out, the guy said you will have to book in and it will cost you $40 i was just sayin in my mind what the.....you did a shittiest job ever, i actualy said it but in a different way the guy said its normal for new disks.

    So what you guys think?

Next time ill service my bike some other place any one now a good place for servicing Honda bikes.
Probably a Honda dealer. I think am going to have to get new tieres as i feel like am drifing a bet when am turning weird.

I wont be able to go for the ride on Sunday
