trust me i've learnt the hard way

brakes sometimes make "light buzzing" sounds due to the pad running over the holes in the disc - my vfr front discs are full of holes and make quite an interesting noise (especially when the tyre buries itself in the radiator guard)

squealing brake can be one of two things:
1: as mentioned they may just be squealy brakes, all you can do is keep them clean
2: the pads need replacing - some calipers have "scratch pads", metal things that clip on behind the pad and will only touch the disc when the bad is ready to be replaced, making an annoying squeal to get you to fix it. experience says not to ignore it or you'll wear the pad right off and weld you scratch pad onto the now bare metal backing of the pad. end result is a heavily scored scored disc.

funny thing was that with the metal-on-metal brakes they worked really well and locked really easily (rear brake on dirtbike). now even with the new pads properly run in (theroretically with more surface area) they take a good stomping to get to lock up

and a final tip: when i put new pads on the pistons had to retract almost 8mm. i didn't think about it untill i heard my reserviour squeak - all the fluid from the two pistons had gone under my pressure back into the reserve and burst it. damn thing was bulging really bad and leaking like a sieve. (still works though)

What time are you guys gonna be tinkering? I'd like to go to the farewell McJim ride since he trailered my bike back when I rode it off a bank

ok, i just finished covering 200km of roads and they all look sweet.

we may have some problems with traffic cus they simply won't pull over, or keep left.

i warned hells pizza we're coming,

and decided that after pizza those interested can follow me out to huia and on a tiki tour back to my place - couple of coronas waiting for me there - and from there it's like 7 minutes to the motorway - the huia run should be less than an hour

oh, i also, to get out of traffic, jumped off piha rd down to karkare - which some of may know is basically a road on the side of a cliff - and had awesome fun on the twisties along lone kauri rd, which eventually loops back to piha rd.

now i nearly highsided on some gravel on the road, and it is an EXTREMELY tight twisty mofo of a road and probably would result in death of a less experienced rider trying to maintain my 40-60kph so we won't take the group down there tomorrow; but if anyone's keen we could do that road some other time, or possibly tomorrow if everone's ok with it

    EDIT
and by nearly, i mean i went down into a hairpin too fast, hard on the brakes and there was big bits of gravel in the middle and the bike went from steady at 45 degrees to my foot and knee just skimming the ground (basically horzontal) and then a intinctive flick of the bars and a bit of traction and the dam bike nearly catapulted me off.

had i let off the brakes i would've fallen quite a distance before hitting the most probably bare rock below.

so unless everyone takes it easy (i passed a tour bus on a left hand blind corner ffs) and can keep their wits about them (on another two right handers i had to swerve widly to get back on my side of the road to avoid a head-on with car) we wont take that route

Damn straight. I never thought of it like that, but I should definitely set them to work and come for a ride.

I would suggest slowing your pace down. the other side of the road is not somewhere you should be, think not if there is another car coming, but that there is motorbike coming the other way...
