it totally depends on what you mean by "country" dunnit? and where you live. I used to profess a hatred of country music because it was everywhere when I was growing up. I now have a lot of what I call country, but I absolutely LOATHE "big hat" country music. There isnt a day in the week that Johnny Cash isnt cool. I'm not bagging your choices by any means (though I personally dont like Shania, or Faith Hill, or Tom Petty) but the only "country" artist in your list is Mr JR Cash.
Lynyrd Skynyrd are a rock band: the 3 guitar frontline is a clue there: Eagles are a pop/rock band (and a bloody good one).
If you want some amazingly good music in the Lynyrd Skynrd mode (not really, but it will do for description if you havent heard them), check out
Drive By Truckers: they are a rock outfit from Alabama that sing songs like a country outfit: their album "The Dirty South" is a work of genius in my opinion.
You might like to check out some of these people:
Gillian Welch. Alison Kraus, Emmylou Harris, Bottle Rockets, Uncle Tupelo *(I LOVE that band) DBT, Gram Parsons, anyone on the soundtrack album for the Coen bros film "O Brother Where Art Thou" or the artists on "Greivous Angel: a tribute to Gram Parsons" also Whiskeytown, (Ryan Adams band before he went solo.. really good....). Theres more: my point I guess is that like any label, a generic one like "country" spans a biiiiiiiig territory: from Hank Williams (ther FIRST one) to UT and DBT.
*spawned Son Volt, Wilco, Jay Farrar
try and enjoy whatever you're listening to: I'm cranking Patti Smith pretty loud at present....
