Yep - you cant beat a great Welly evening especially when heading over the TAKAS. As a noobie it was great to finally meet some of you guys. And thanks for the tips/advice - it is appreciated. Also thanks Mowgli for shadowing me on the way back - the rear brake lever switch was stuck on... (NO, I wasnt sitting on the brake all the way down the hill!! ) I added some CRC when I got home and the switch was fine. Roll on next time... Cheers DJ

Book A Meal - Do The Lake Ride - Eat A Meal

Arrived at duckpond last night and mentioned to KoroJ, I was thinking of doing a nana ride around the western side of Lake Wairarapa and back the East West Access Road and Kahutara Rd. John said he did that last weekend and would be just going onto the Tin Hut.

RussellWhitlock arrived on the 650 Savage and he was keen and so were a few other 250 riders to do the lake loop, Russell suggested a stop at the Royal hotel [the red one] to order meals, allowing a 50minutes to an hour for the ride.

I was TEC and KoroJ was waiting at top of Rimutaka Hill, thanks John, and followed down to the Royal. When I arrived in Featherston, apparently quite a few of the riders stopped at the Royal, I don't know who/how many may have gone onto the Tin Hut.

Rev DJ and Mowgli on their L's and [dang forgot name - another rider on his Firestorm he just purchased and ridden back from Hamilton on the weekend], Russell and I had a good ride. Caution with sun strike, then a bunny across the road, and on the way back, we nearly had some prime beef up in the distance, with a stray outside the paddock fence on the road. We came to a crawl and had to move right across to the opposite side of the road, fortunately a clear stretch and good visual distance.

Got back to the Royal around 8.15pm, 65km for the loop and 50minutes the ride, just as the meals were being brought out. The riders that remained there were just getting ready to leave when we got back.

I think Russell may be onto a good idea for next riding season when the days get longer, say once every 3 or 4 weeks to BRE 'book & ride & eat' out of Featherston.

Thanks Russell, Mowgli, Rev DJ and blue Firestorm rider, for a great evenings ride.

    Heads Up and Enjoy

Yeah - the prime beef was an event - I had a vision of someone cleaning it up and then someone having to carry a ton of steak on the back of the bike for the barbie!!!

Yeah Karmakiller and myself were the ones at the tin hut. Sorry I hadnt met you guys before, either.
We came over the hill with the others, (i dont know how many there were,) but a dozen or so. Most were going to do the loop before a feed at the royal, but as we had about 45 minutes ride up on the others (as we rode over from Kapiti), we went straight in for a feed. Took the long way back home via Ngauranga interchange and SH1. Got back around 9.25pm
    Great evening for a ride.
You know it's going to be a bad day when you jump out of bed and miss the floor.
