    Pukekohe Open Day 08/09/07

Pukekohe racetrack open day yesterday, shared with cages but bloody good fun nonetheless. Here are some pics of the action - 2 small videos to come.
Look out for Jill Clendon aka Keystone19 having a ding dong battle with a Gixxer 600. Go Jill !!

Here are the vids, small but it captures the cut and thrust of the action between Eviltwin (07 ZX10R monster), YamahaR64Life (take a guess), Biggles08 (alpha male ZX9R).
I must make mention of Jill on her SV650, there must have been a considerable horsepower deficit between hers and the Gixxer 600 but boy she rode the arse off it. Great ride (s) Jill!!
Yeah BB it wuz a blast, got the '10 wound up freakingly fast in the second session - just goes to show a fat old bloke still has some fire in the (well padded) belly!!
And Carbacca yes it was a 'controlled' test day. The TKR Touring cars were there testing, and those things are menacingly fast. Late braking honours amongst the cages goes to a couple of Mini Coopers, those things must have 4 sets of Brembos on each wheel!

I was there yesterday taking the chance to learn the track for when i eventually get a bike sorted over here....

I was driving the Black Audi TT...........the misses only bought it on Monday but the tyres and brakes are well and truly used now

Very much like the circuit and got the TT to really hustle around the place....

Yes it's a proper horsepower track alright - I saw your TT circulating, it looked like you were enjoying yourself! The Porsches were going quickly weren't they?

The porsches were very quick indeed....well most of them. The GT3RS that i caught and then got stuck behind was not so quick mind. Completely cleared off on the straights but then a mobile chicane in the rest of the track. Ended up with three of us queued behind him and even adding up the value of all three of the cars we were in wouldn't have come to the price of a 911GT3RS. There was some nice kit in the paddock yesterday!!

The noise of being passed by an OZ V8 touring car on full chat was awesome....

Got the little TT well and truly amongst it and seemed to be one of the quicker road cars out there but for that circuit it could do with being the 3.2 not the 2.0 I think it got down into the low teens lap time wise which ain't to bad for 'the wifes car'.

Where do i buy some decent tyres for it and some brakes i wonder? saying that not sure i'll be allowed it for a track day again.....lol

Sure wish i'd had a bike yesterday though.

Popped along on the ZX-6R and jumped on the trusty black GSX-R... Did some rider training with Jill... She's coming along well, and hopefully with some more coaching will get back to her old times!!! And thankfully she let me have a little play on the track aswell... Cruised around and did a couple 1.03's and 2's had a knackered rear tyre. Did some very average wheelies too...

Must say Jill rode the 650 impressively well... nice to be given the learn by a professor... on the track atleast... coz I don't attend lectures

edit: mind you I could have easily been standing on the seat had I chosen to... o.O

Careful guys - it'll go to my head! But yeah, I was pleased with progress yesterday, the bike is starting to handle better as we work on set up with it and I get my head around the slightly different handling of a slightly older bike than what I've been used to.

Chris (Two Smoker) has been really helping me get my confidence back since my series of offs recently - so thanks Chris! The shoulder is handling the heavier bike well too.

So yes, hopefully we'll start to get the times back to where they have been soon.

Was great to see some first timers out there yesterday too. Big improvements were seen among some in particular (nice to see the Bandit 1200 pulling away from me out of Castrol in the last session rather than me going past it!!).

And thanks for the photos BIGBOSSMAN!

(Oh, and Raj, by the time I'm a professor I probably won't be able to get my leg over a bike!)

    Hey Jill,

How come you're riding the older bike now? Do you still have you other one??

    Hey Glen

Yeah, still got the other one, we've got it off the track atm while we get some work done on it in preparation for the Nationals. I have the loan of the other one for a little while.
