The blue bandito & I are thinking of getting up early and meeting up at the start but then pulling out when coming back. Unless we change our minds and do the whole thing and then ride home...

It's still a fair way off so things may change...

Gutted. Love the sound of this, but my sister arrives from the UK. Hopefully it will be done again.

Sounds like fun, not sure on work but might jump on for local loop.Done couple of G.C.'s not how fast u go, it's how fast you don't go, ie how long an how often you stop.

Aye, that's why the STs do so well on the long rides. I've had 520 Kms on a non-stop tank taking it easy. Not sure how much further it would have gone but I might have got 550.

Just under two weeks to go and so far we have 10 confirmed and I'm awaiting a couple of replies.

We would like to preprint certificates and have the registration sheet pre-done to save time on the day, so if you want to do this ride, please register asap...Thanks.

And a note of thanks for the offer.......
Motomart have kindly offered a recovery vehicle if we get more than 30 riders.

I'd be so keen to do this, if I had a little more faith that my bike wouldn't die.

    Road Conditions

Took a bit of a ride down Highway 52 today to have a look at the road. I came through from the Weber end but turned off at Pa Valley Road to take me home so I rode about 50km of it.

Weber end was a bit slippery in the wet but not too bad. As most people will know the whole road has a lot of repairs on it and in places these are broken up a bit and gravel & crap over the road is pretty common.

The piccy's below show probably the worse bit although we'll be going the right way to miss most of it. It's about 10km south of Pongaroa and you'll come around that left hander that the bike's parked on before htting the right hander where the opposite side of the road is all gravel with some of it sprinkled all over the left hand side too.

No major dramas, just remember it's a back country road. I did come across a huge tractor taking up all the road and there was even a coach bus at one stage. Stock count: at least 3 sheep & 1 arthritic hare.

Moving a bit further into the ride the Pahiatua Track is in good condition and the road through Mangamire is ok too although still road works (not much to worry about) at Mangamire itself.

Looking forward to the ride - hope the weather is as good as it was today.

My Blog of the ride here.

Im another that is looking forward to it.
I went for a wee 300k ride today just to get some saddle time. My poor old bike has been parked up for quite a few weeks now due to bloody work commitments.
Getting new tyres and chain and sprockets fitted this week so another wee scrub in the tyres run probably on Thursday and I will be ready to go.
Having never ridden this sort of distance its going to be a great challenge for me. The longest distance I have done in one stretch is around 750 km so it will be great to see the 1000 click over
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.

Also, as there is a recovery vehicle does anyone still want me to bring extra fuel?
The real mystery is how come that fat bastard Hurley has never lost any weight.

That was me yesterday. Yeah Im pretty happy with it too!
Ive sort of mapped out my fuel stops as Im about 200 km before the fuel light comes on and then Im 30 to 40 ks until Im in to poo and I think Im fine but I suppose it wouldnt hurt if there is going to be a recovery vehicle

Please note that at this stage we don't have 30+ riders and I expect we may get about 20 so I wouldn't rely on having a recovery vehicle. Having said that, we would try and utilise our KB & Ulysses networks to get assistance to any riders in need.

I will leave last and can carry 5 litres but Murphy's Law dictates that if anyone does need gas, I will have passed them while they were at their last fuel stop!!??

Thats probably true. Maybe it would be easier then for everyone to lok after there own rather than trying to rely on someone who maybe 100km's plus in front.
