The Capital 1000K Cruise
Saturday 03 November

Departs: 0700 am, Caltex Rimutaka, Upper Hutt.
Meet before for briefing etc.

This is an informal ride for those North Islanders that would like to do the Southern 1000km Longest Day Endurance Ride, but can’t afford to pay The Ferryman.

Route is 1,044kms via:
Rimutakas – Masterton – Pongaroa – Wimbledon – Waipukarau (259K)
Napier - SH 5 - Taupo (205K)
Poihipi Rd – Western Arm – SH41 – Taumaranui (130K)
National Park – Raetihi – Wanganui – Fordell – Hunterville (231K)
Cheltenham – Ashhurst – Aokautere – Mangamaire – Rimutakas – Rimutex (219K)
And carry on to Rimutaka Tavern, (nextdoor) to trade tales, get certs and win spot prizes.


There will be Certificates for completing the ride and Spot Prizes - compliments of NAC Insurance.


Depending on numbers, we may ride as a group or stagger the start.
As an informal ride, you and your bike are your responsibility to ensure both are capable of completing the course. There is no recovery vehicle organised.
A register of riders will be kept to ensure everyone returns.
It is not a race and should be easily doable at a sedate pace with stops…enjoy the ride.

The ride will go ahead rain, hail or shine….pending the Wed/Thurs weather forecast.

Could be a goer too. Did Alfredton to Pongaroa yesterday - roads not in too bad a nick except where storm damage still not repaired. Paraparas were ok last weekend too.

I'm definitely interested, would be nice if we could break up into a few subgroups based on skill / desired speed- 1000k's is a long way to go alone.

Looks good...pencil me in! Might take the hyosung tho...and do an economy run. Taking the Ducati to Auckland and back next month so that'll be a good practice!!

You should be able to manage a rolling average of 85kmh (even on the roads chosen) and be back at the pub in about 12 hours even, if you don't fanny around during the stops. It's only a long day ride.

Yep, I could be keen. At this stage the dairy tells me I'm free that day. Should be a nice wind down after the Grand Challenge a couple of weeks before.

One quick warning tho, the guy at Pongaroa petrol station is not always open on weekends and only has 91.
For most bikes its not a problem because that whole leg without that stop is only 259km but we had a shitty experiance with my mates honda X4 (1300) that has to be babied to do 120km on a tank!

A Small extra gas comtainer could be a good idea for those of you with gas guzzlers out there...

Go the GSX250 with its 400km range!

Hmmm, I hope you're right. I've just spoken to one of the guys here at work who has done the Grand Challenge (4 times now. He says that their average last year was 80kmh and to do that their cruising speeds were 120-140. But those figures don't sound right either.
