Suspended Cop gets new Police car

Can anyone tell me why a suspended officer (Rickards) is given a new police car?

I can understand the full pay thing while on suspension but to be given a police vehicle when he is not performing any duties is something else. Or is he working while under suspension??

Um, no I can't. You probably need to go somewhat higher up the food chain than mere Bykey Cop.

Can't imagine he would be doing too many km's in his old one!

What has he done wrong ? .....Maybe he as an Amway franchise with Teflon. But you can't hold that against him . After what are you going to do with all that spare time. Visit old old friend and remember the good Ole day's. We must have faith in the system. You are innocent until you are proven guilty.

Mr Rickards is suspended on full pay. The vehicle is part of his package and will be rotated in accordance with the NZ Police's policy on managers' cars. Just like it says in the article.

Yes I read that bit. But the difference is that other officers are doing their job and the car is a part of the package that enables them to carry out their duties.

Rickards has no duties.............but by giving him the car sounds to me like he has some sympathy from someone. Like I mean if he was not given one who is going to take any notice if he jumps up and down and says I'm entitled to a new car. Watch this cunt get his job back. Like how long is it going to take before someone makes a decision on this for Christ sakes.

What surprised me is that he is suspended for 3 years. Ah the good ol days when you could just fire people.

Yeah rickards is suspended after being found not guilty of raping Louise Nicholas, why? Strange thing that because if he was as squeeky clean as he, and others claim, he would have been reinstated immediately on full pay with a car. Instead, he gets a holiday on full pay and the car! Perhaps this is because he is now an embarrassment to the NZ police as they know like the rest of us know, especially in the light of Shollum, Shipton and Dewars demise, that he only got away because of a smart lawyer.
If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

    Personally I don’t know if he’s guilty or not, and yes he’s entitled to be treated as innocent, but;
Given the media interest, the circus that surrounds him at the moment – I would of thought someone would’ve had the balls to say no to ordering a new car for him, who cares if it breaks his employment agreement, let him take the Police to the employment tribunal – see how far he gets. That’s if he cared anyway, he’s already driving around in a 3 year old commodore, courtesy of the taxpayer anyway. (bet it’s a V8 and we’re paying all his gas as well).
If he did take it to employment tribunal and the Police had to give him a new one – the general public would turn their displeasure toward the employment tribunal.
What spineless, pussy bashing, wimp made the decision to give him a new car.
The fact that Rickards can’t see how badly it reflects on the Police shows he’s obviously not fit for the job at that level anyway.

When is someone going to sort the whole thing out and get him out or put him back into a job – what’s the matter with them, useless pratts.

His employment contract would have had the conditions if he were to be suspended pending investigation. His employers (the police) are bound by the contract. If they didn't think he should get any perks if he were ever to be suspended then they should have thought about that when he signed the contract. I would guarantee they obtained legal advice before making the decision.

Yeah. Them not fulfilling their contract would be taken in isolation and the other court matters would not have a bearing. If it went to the employment court they would have lost and had to front up with a vehicle and then pay compensation and legal fees. Cheaper just to stick to the employment contract.

Don't really know why he's still suspended. 'Bringing the force into disrepute' perhaps? Anyone know the grounds?

Nice to see the shit-arse employment laws finally biting the government in the butt. Perhaps now they'll do something about them ... except, of course, the danger of losing the substantial "slack bastard" voting block may prove to be just too much of a risk for the governing party of helengrad.

Oh well, as you were I guess.
