ECU experts, any ideas on this?

Being ECU or at least the workings of them ignorant i was very surprised to get a phone call from a bloke i know (as in interweb) in the states that i loaned my yosh box (pretty basic by todays standards ecu adjuster) to awhile back in the states.He has posted it back to me but was ringing to pass on his and some guys over theres thanks for the use of it,what i found interesting was that it had done the rounds of a group of guys with V-stroms,on the box it specifies TLRS/TLSs/ and older GSXR600/750s and i think early Busas,he sent me a link to the V-strom site and sure enough it seems to have acheived results as reading through some of the posts the guys involved have more than some ability when fucking around with there bikes,my question is how?i thought in the likes of late model V-stroms the ECU would have moved on some from what the Yosh box i have was designed to alter,if it works on them would it possibly work with other late model Suzukis?Ive been following the posts of a couple of very clever buggers on another forum that have been mucking about with some ECUs and there findings are not inline with what i was led to be the norm.

well i would believe it would work with any 16bit suzuki ecu would it not?
would need the 32bit yoshi box to work with the later model 32bit ecu(2003+ gsxrs) unsure what bit the sv/v-strom has.

But would think if they 16 it would work.

Make things affordable and more profitable for suzuki wouldn't want to be reventing the wheel all the time

The Yoshi is simpler because it ignores a lot of the stuff the standard ECU requires, ie side stand sensor, clutch in sensor etc.

Nope,its simpler because it works in 5 and 10 degree adjustments either way,that aside i guess someone needs to post up the difference between the ECUs,surely a 2 year old V-strom isnt using the same as at best an early Busa.The advantage to a yosh box its the plug and play in your own shed etc and if you fuck up its simply flash with Zero settings and your back to oem,Disadvantage is nowhere near as adjustable as a PC etc.

Not sure exactly how the box works, but if it just flashes a code to the ecu, it may well still work on a later more advanced system if it still uses the same code to adjust it.....
btw, can I borrow it sometime?

If the bike has a compatible plug, plug it in and try it. The TekaTune has worked on every Suzuki I have plugged it into. Works a little differently on late model ecu but it still works.
Colemans have a yosh box, ask them?

From what I could gather the core ECU has squillions of maps and values specific to the bike and its sensors, CPU type etc etc etc. It is all very complex.

On top of that, for the initial construction / minor tweaking, there is another external area of "tweak" memory that only "fine tunes" some of the maps using your yosh box. These yosh / teka boxes are writing to that area of tweak memory only.

Sounds like that technique is used across the zook range. Makes sense rather than something different for each.
