    GSXR 7/11 Anyone built one of these

    Thinking about the above aleration.

    Have found a frame (bare not rolling) for a slabside 750, for $450

    I understand that the 1100 and therefore the GSF engine will slot straight into the frame.

    Front end can be from any bike (Suzuki)

    Not sure about the swinging arm. Can an 1100 swinging arm be fitted?

    Read a lot on the bike boards around the world (mainly Europe) about this conversion and all seem to praise it.

    I know modern machines are already where this conversion will take me but it sounds like fun.

    A drop in weight of about 30 kg, boost the hp of my 1200 engine with the spare heads, cams, carbs and exhaust system I have managed to acrue.

    Little street screamer.

    C'mon has any one done this. Tell me your experiences.

    Hi

    Have a good think about it.
    The 750's had complaints in mags for having a flexy frame in standard form.
    The 1100 has a lot more metal around the problem areas and the swingarm is thicker wall etc.
    You will also have difficulty getting the rocker cover off to adj valves I have heard.
    I can't see a 30kg loss in it - I'd guess closer to 20.

    But many people have done it before so info is readily available.

    I just seen On line motorcycle accessories trying to sell a 7/11 project at our last swapmeet.
    Its a 1100 K or J with a bent frame and a 750 frame rego on hold frame same era.
    They want a bit for it though!

    I'd be looking at getting a "M" frame to do this properly. 1991 or 1992. With upside down front end.

    A MUCH stronger frame.

    None of that nasty bend in the corner stuff.

    GSXR-750 engine

    Hi, Yes please need a bit of help, I purchased a '87 frame (think its a "G" model) minus engine carbs cdi, exhaust, and have stripped down, re-painting etc (Big job) I now have everything except the engine and cdi, I see there are a few engines on Trade me, but most have the gears removed and locked clutches?? to go into TQ's, how hard is it to replace these things for a novice?

    I have been offered a '85 ("F" model) motor complete, but am not sure what the difference in this engine compared to the ("G") model I am looking for, was it cosmetic, or internal?, its going to cost me $1300 including CDI and freight, is this a good deal, is this a good option for me, as I say I am a novice, and dont want to get the wrong thing, any suggestions

    Engine wise you may also keep an eye out for a 1200 bandit or GS1200ss unit, less kick from stock than the R motor but I understand cams etc pop in and it sounds like you have the goodies. A GS1200ss motor was on TM a few months ago 5-6k on the clock and about $2200 with the electronics if I recall.

    Gidday,
    Use the "M" or later chassis as the learned people above have suggested, the earlier chassis can be made to be "adequate" but tie themselves in knots pretty bloody quickly with the additional power...

    The sky is the limit with these build ups, as you get to play with the "Big Boys Suzuki Meccano Set" with bikes from this era; a mate & I built one up years ago & I have to say it was one of the most insane bikes I've had the pleasure of throwing a leg over !!!

    (Very similar to ride as the "C" model ZX 10-R Kawasaki when it first hit our shores, wheelie off the drop of a hat in the first three or so gears & just mind numbingly fu*k off fast in a straight line...)

    Do yourself a very big favour... Once you have got your proposed combo together, talk to Dr Robert (Taylor) & have him build suspension to suit - the investment in decent suspendy bits (& brakes for that matter) will mean the difference between a bike that gives you a full on bikers woody every time you ride it & a tank slapping piece of shite that wants to kill you...

    Power wise, anything between 135 & 150 at the rear is doable reliably with the "M" or later water cooled engines, I'd stick with the air / oil cooled engines myself - your aim is to build big power into the lightest possible package...

    IIRC there are no engine differences between F and G.
