Hmmm... you gotta wonder about the 2 listed in the "Other" catagory.

    Disaster!

i got the vfr back on the road today...

went to see if she still went in a straight line. she doesn't. veers to the left. alot.

the rear subframe isn't quite straight, but it's pretty damn close.... any suggestions?

    Buy a new sub frame....or modify it with a CBR600RR sub-frame

the subframe was slightly bent before the accident and didn't create anywhere near as much a problem. i'm thinking something else is out too

and finding a straight vfr400 subframe is going to be somewhat difficult. this is where i think i call up insurance and double check my cover.... it's a bugger i've already spent $200 bucks on it (mirror, indicator, oil, coolant and radiator repair)

Don't tell the insurance company that you have already had a go at repairing it as I am sure there will be some sub-clause somewhere prohibiting such.

I am not very experienced in non-straight bikes. Obviously it's either coming from the front or rear end or possibly a bit of both.

First, try riding the bike without hands on a safe, flat and straight piece of road. Does the wheel / steering wobble, does it pull to the left then?

Next: Stand the bike upright with a rear wheel stand or jack etc, get a straight edge (long straight piece of metal) and line the two wheels up. Then get a measuring tape and measure the handle bars from different positions to see if they are symmetrical i.e. ground up and from opposing sides of the bikes frame etc. This will hopefull help you assertain whether the bike's 'straying' is coming from the front or not.

Rear is gonna be tricker and I'd personally get a mechanic to check that out, especially on a mono swing arm.

A bent subframe in itself shouldn't make your bike turn left, though I guess if your body was made to feel crooked, you may instinctively start turning the bike to try and get it lined up?

Good luck bro, I hope you get it sorted soon as I need a challenging riding buddy!

yeah, i think (read: hope) it's might just be the subframe putting my weight off centre

if the forks were twisted that shouldn't do it, and they should be fine anyway. i'm pretty hopeful it's just a weight issue from the subframe, but there's always the chance i've bent/moved something more serious - looking at the fairings and the dent on the tank, plus the movement in the frame after the crash i'm concered the main chassis/engine has moved/twisted in some way. the only way to find out really is to get the rear properly straight and see what happens then. i doubt the mono arm moved as that didn't slam into the ground

as for testing, i tried several different roads and always got the same result. i couldn't even bring the bike staight by leaning without touching the bars - though i didn't want to try too hard for obvious reasons

i'll be round for drinks and we can all kick the tyres and maybe have a go at fixing it

loosen the triples, make sure the forks are onto it, Swingarm take a knock? quite possibly so for the obvious, does the rear wheel appear to run true?

not hard to get a vfr subframe/swinger anyway i dont think...

    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-130458496.htm
    -Subframe $40

The guy asking q's on this auction (kai....) mentions having one which he's possibly going to use on a project bike but seems to want to get rid of the bike
    http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...-130177595.htm
He may have gotten in touch with the person who started the auction

I'm sure i can find more easily, but that subframe is cheap. You can give chris the sidestand!!!!

bah trademe! most useless search function on the internet!

i went and looked, searching for "vfr400". turns out in order to see that auction you found you have to search "vfr400r" you'd think that for the fees they charge and the money they make they could atleast have a search function that works!

oh, and i don't see how/why the swingarm would have bent, but i will be looking tomorrow, and i'll ride her round to macstar's for all to see

    tard, do a wildcard search

    i.e.

    vfr400*

    will return:

    VFR400
    vfr400r
    vfr400ididyourmumlikeadog

same goes for VFR*400, that way if its VFR 400 then it'll be found.

Subtle differences but its a simple search engine

first on my wee sj50qt 'stardust' (i painted it up with flames to make it less hetero-challenged) at about 50kms taking an over-90deg angled corner in the wet on tires that desperately needed changing..10 cars went past, not a single person stopped to see if i was ok. FUCKING CAGE DRIVERS!

second, dropped my fxr150 at a petrol station. DUMB.

third, riding my vfr away from a petrol station and put knee down around first corner of an s-bend (joining two one-way roads together) and, according to the driver who was behind me, my kickstand flicked out and when i went to do the left-hander, she wouldn't go..bin into island garden! was wicked. went flying off the front and rolled about 3 or 4 times..

fourth, taking off from lights on vfr two weeks later, some FUCKING CAGE DRIVERS with hotted up cars thought it'd be awesome to lay some diesel and do burnouts, council laid gravel next morning to cover it, NO SIGNAGE, bike simply fell out from under me. rad. one guy helped me pick it back up again.

fifth, and the unfortunate end to the vfr..cruising home from work, cut into left lane from right, lady very slowly moving forward, no brake lights on, didn't realise i wouldn't stop till it was way too late, jammed the bloody bike halfway under her little suzuki alto..

sixth (after owning a vtr firestorm for 9 months without having a SINGLE accident) bought a cbr250rr, two weeks later i crashed it coming back over mt messenger from mokau, chasing my mates vrod..vid here
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUtyboh2Pkk
vid of me heading over towards mokau (yes, its been sped up a little, no i didn't edit it..)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHOt8bNLP-w&feature=user
two weeks later, some numbnuts fuckwit cage driver (anyone seeing a pattern here?) reversed into it, smashed up the right side and took off. thank christ i insured it..god i miss that bike. anyone got one for cheap? i'll take it! haha..

seventh - just a few days ago, visiting a mate on the new TL and tried turning in a tight spot and she just fell over. i'm not a big guy and i'm not fit and i still picked her up..fuckin aye. but still..gay.
original quote from 98tls - Who gives a shite about Kw when you can all arrive in Fox at the same time sit and have a coffee and thank fuck for motorcycles..whatever the wording on the gas tank.

    ^stay off bikes man!!^

Apart from dropping a bike in a muddy driveway at 4-5kph this is my only other bin ever in all my riding days and it happened on the track.

Bike was sweet (ripped the grip and scratched the axel bolt), and I burnt a hole in my cheap ass RJays leathers.
