Icon "Retro Daytona" jacket, ex-Ebay / Flying Brian

Thought I'd put a post up about this since I love this jacket. It tends to polarise people, into those who quite rightly think it's f**king cool, and those that quite rightly think it's a bit toy-town tough. Mine is the black one in the attachments, and the back is similar to the white one.

I bought it via Flying Brian, who currently has over 20,000 items for sale. It had a buy-now price which worked out to be US$450 or about NZ$580. In total it cost $730 including freight, and took less than a week to turn up. For a reason which I won't disclose here, I paid no GST although it would be prudent to factor that in as well.

As soon as I unwrapped it, I fell in love - full leather, including all the "ICON MOTO" wording, the skulls etc. Plus full armour and a zip-out liner. It is heavy like a motorcycle jacket should be but not oppressively so, and the seams look to be triple stitched so it should hang together should the worst happen (I damage it - eeek!)

It's also made for warm climates, as it has vents with zips between the "I love my Hooker headers" badge and the "Motul" badge, plus another set vertically over your kidneys.

It's not very long, sitting just over my belt at the front when standing, but coming a little lower in the back. The leather is lovely - matt finish, distressed and yielding but still very substantial.

It is a fashion item, but it's also a serious jacket with protection in mind; the cost should indicate that. I sort of need a scarf to keep my neck warm, other than that I'm very very happy with it. The skulls sort of say "Don't f**k with me (because I'd be useless in a fight)" which is fine by me, but they also do a very nice blue one which is identical except for spades instead of skulls. In hindsight, I think that is almost nicer - it has that 70s Superbiker / Kenny Roberts look but the black one suits my M50 more.

    The sales pitch is
Ridden hard and put away wet. That's probably the easiest way to describe the Retro Daytona jacket. Thanks to an exclusive Icon distressing technique, the Retro Daytona has a vintage feel straight out of the box. Comfort, character, and a Steve McQueen flair. Put it on and become the hero of On Any Sunday that you always wished you were.
Did I mention I love it? When work and family demands allow, I'll turn up to the Sunday morning ride in Wellington and anyone who's interested can check it out. I'll also add some detail shots of the stitching etc over the weekend.

Actually, the effect of having six skulls is sort of, "Look at me - I'm trying to look tough/bad! But I'm not really. Please don't hurt me..."
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

I've got the "icon motorhead" - imported it from USA got mine for NZ 540 including freight with that spell where the dollar was strong.
totally recommend ICON as its heavy as with absolutely beautilful detailing and a full set of armour. I had to import as there wasn't a single italian or other jacket that had long enough arms for me...but trust the yanks to go big in the arms. YAY

I like your jacket-just wan't neutral enough for me to rock up to art events on the way home for work so I had to go with the planer one...

May I ask how much the shipping was?
I'm about to buy the same jacket and thinking of getting HJC AC-12 at the same time so might do the combined shipping..But would doing this incur gst from the customs? since its 2 new items coming and all?
Also hows the sizing of the jacket? does it fit as they say they do? (eg. L fits as a normal L etc)
    Thanks in advance!

US$60 shipping, so not cheap but fast. It was also the cheapest option; the other options included insurance or were by courier and even more expensive.

The sizing is about right - do a search on the web and see if you can find a sizing chart with exact measurements. I ordered a 44" jacket and if I tried it on in a shop, I may have gone up one size. It's still a good fit though and accurate.

I'm in the process of ordering my new Alpinestars boots through these guys. If you order multiple items you get a 30% discount off the shipping. These guys do give good discounts too - I'm getting $55 USD off the boots. Shipping normally takes 5-8 days to your door.
