Smile Jas's VMCC round 5 report

Got to the track with time to spare, set everything up and checked all I needed to check. This time I was prepared and preparing myself mentally for the riding ahead. I still have to work on being a bit pushier out there and not caving when people come close

    Scrub in:
Bike felt good, the repairs on the track were pretty good to ride on and even though it was the dreaded short track, I still felt reasonably comfortable on it

Race one: One and only race of the day... 25 mins long. I knew endurance was going to be a huge factor for me, I'm not very fit and my knee is still weak from being trampled by my horse. So my plan was to go out there and take it easy... why is that SO much easier said then done?

I got a pretty good start, was in with the pack for a change... I'm normally to scared to be in with every one round turn 1! Within a couple of laps I was following AJ, I chased him round for about 4 laps slowly catching up each time then I was right on his rear wheel for a while when two 125's came through and pushed him wide round Higgins, I took the opening and passed
I was sure he was right behind me, so I kept pushing hard. Coming round Higgins I'm still not quite sure what happened, the back went and I started sliding with the bike when the accelerator went and the bike span away. Then Heellloooooo rubble strip and ground, sky, ground, sky... grass
Third bin and I'm starting to get the hang of this crashing thing, not a good habit but at least I'm keeping my head up (I love my helmet)

A marshal came and helped me get my bike back to the tyre wall and I got to watch every one else for the rest of the race, I learned quite a bit and it was an awesome view from there!
I was riding smoother and quicker before my bin then I ever have, beat my best lap time by a second, so I was stoked as everything felt really good.
    So that was day one!

Thanks to Billy for waving each time you went passed, cheered me up a lot after the bin

Thanks also to my mum for always being there for me, Paddy for your support, Andy for you help with the bike and all that you do with the streetstock class, Glen for helping to get my bike ridable again and just every one there! You're all awesome and it wouldn't be the same without you there

    Day two to come....

After a really good night at Drovers with a lot of the VMCC members and a good sleep, it was time for day two...
Woke up a bit sore from the bin, but looking forward to the day ahead.
Got to the track and pulled my bike out of the SS pit, thanks for letting my bike have a sleepover Andy

Took some Panadiene to try help my elbow and knees, as soon as I was out on the track for the warm up lap I knew it was going to be hard to ride. I couldn't move around on the bike smoothly and I backed off a lot around all the corners.

I got a good start, within a few laps the red flag came out so it was back to the weigh in station to line up. Going out again I was wondering if I would be able to make it the 10 laps, but you never know if you don't try lol.

Bad start this time but never mind, you live and you learn. My goal for this race was to see the checkered flag and make it to the pits, with out the assistance of a trailer
Got lapped by most of the riders... but I made it through the race

Decided not to ride in the 15 lap race.

Thanks to Chris Mitchell for still sponsoring me
Avalon Wagener for doing the write up in the Manawatu Standard
Keith and Avalon for all your help over the weekend
All the Hawkes Bay crew for being there
    Col' for the cake and

There's so many people to thank, it amazes me how helpful and supportive people are... So thank you one and all and to all a good evening!

Oh, and did I say.... BRING ON TAUPO

Next time you'll be the hometrack hero! A pity things didn't go all that smoothly but better to be racing another day... I know you'll clean house next time out... Look out Avalon!

    Good on ya Jas!

Binning sucks but apparently you know you've reached the limit when you do! (Well that's what they tell me anyways...)

You're riding has come so far in such a short time, looking forward to seeing you kicking more ass next time!

Lookin forward to Taupo, been a long time since I've ridden there so it will be interesting to see if riding at Manfeild has improved my riding there at all.
