headlights not working after droppage

dropped my bike today Now the bloody headlights dont work. As if i already dont have enough on my mind... Can anyone please help? the bulbs arent blown, and all the wiring seems in place. Fuse looks good as its the same one that controls the indicators and theyre working fine.
Any help would be great,

Yeah - volt meter, you can pick up a reasonable one for $20 and they make these things much easier.

And then do a search for an online manual or wiring diagram. Meanwhile work from one end to the other checking the plug / connectors.

- is the only not working thing the headlight? What about the tail light and indicators?
- both high and low beam?

If the bulbs and fuses are ok sounds like you may have a broken connection. Check the connectors first in case one has got pulled out a bit. Check in back of the headlight and the other end of the wiring as well as any connectors en route.

Does high beam work? If it does check your bulb again.

Then as paturoa says get a volt meter and do a contiunuity test of the wires at the head light at one end and at the other end from further down the wiring loom. Keep working along the respective headlight wire in the loom until you find no continuity or contiunuity which ever you find first (if this makes sense). You will need a wiring diagram to help you get through this.

good advice. Only thing I can add is what side you dropped it and how.

Had a bike the pulled a plug with the handle bars went one way to hard. maybe thats what happened?

Hi, a voltmeter is great if you have trouble with charging circuits etc.

But for this kind of problem, all you need is a 12v test lamp - $2 at a dollar plus shop, or about $5 at repco/supercheap.

Just approach it logically...

Look for damage where you dropped it - damaged wires, pulled connectors, broken switches.

Then look for broken earth wires, thats the most common.

Then just follow the wires with your test lamp.

Bright lamp = good circuit.
Yellow lamp = hmm, somrthing wrong, dodgy connection, switch, or missing earth
no lamp = no juice

Wot dave sed, anyone can do it, test light, identify the right wires and follow them from the power source and back,

Hey, thanks everyone for the replies.
I bought a voltmeter and first of all made sure i was dealing with the right wires, then i traced them back. Some how i had managed to rip out the wires which ran underneath my fuel tank, after resoldering it all works ok
