Levin loses its only motorcycle parking

Went to town this morning, intending to park in the motorcycle park in Oxford St.

Its been painted out and turned into a car park.

I rang the council, and Mike Lepper told me that they were short of car parks, so it was decided that the motorcycle park would go, and motorcyclists would use the meters like cars.

I pointed out that 5 or 6 motorcycles would fit in a single motorcycle park. But that if they parked in a car park each, he would actually be 5 parks down, not one up !

He seems a pretty reasonable sort of guy, and suggested that it may be reviewed in future.

But if you live in the Horowhenua, it's election year so maybe a polite call to Mike, or your local candidate might not go amiss, just to ensure it is actually reviewed... I'm dialling Mr. Duffy as I type...

I guess if there are enough motorcyclists, you could all come into town early, put a bike in each car park and take them all up. Been done in other places. That would highlight the silliness of the move.

make sure you ask him how you display a ticket on the dashboard so it doesn't get stolen or fall to bits in the rain....

hmm well the Levin council seems to be more about keeping up apearances than actually listening to anyone or making sensible decisions on parking and least of all sewerage and water quality!!!!..which clown do I vote for this year then????

Yeah, the park was right in the middle of town, in Oxford St.

Actually it wasn't a very good park, it was an angle park, so you couldnt really fit many bikes in, and it was quite a steep camber so it was a bastard to manhandle a big bike in.

But replacing a good motorcycle park with a car park..
    - helps by one car park when there are no motorcyclists in town
    - breaks even when there is only one bike parked
    - is on a massive loss by the time there are five or six bikes parked.

Well theres ya problem right there they let a guy called "Mike The Lepper" call the shots on motorcycle parking. Obviously being a Lepper he's not allowed to ride incase body parts drop off along the road, so takes his frustration out on the local motorcyclists!!!

Show me someone on the council and I will show you someone who has failed at everything else in life.

If anyone happens to be watching this thread and waiting for LOLJOAX about 'bikes' being parked up in Levin, I have been delegated to notify you all that there won't be any. Move along, nothing to see here.

Maybe its election year - I have heard from the Mayor, they are going to look at putting in more motorcycle parks. They will look at using space thats not big enough for a car, that would normally be wasted, and making those smaller spots into single motorcycle parks.

We have bugger-all bike parks on the North Shore but there is one I have used. In Browns Bay one afternoon I did the right thing; parked my HD in the right (bike) park, backed it in, killed the engine and went about my bizzo. Came back a while later, slipped on my lid and gloves, fired up the engine and the dog that was tied up outside the pet store (yes, they put a bike park right outside a pet store) slipped his chain and buggered off!

Guy comes running out, all abusive and jabbering hard-out about how I'd parked inconsiderately and should park elsewhere. I pointed to the sign, selected first gear ad buggered off myself. Never did find out what happened to the dog.

Thats awesome Dave!Thanx for approaching the bigwigs and seeing what they plan to do about it.As the mayor is also a motorcyclist it would be daft of him not to listen in some respects(cough cough).
