    Adding a Ram-Air Intake

What will happen if you create a Ram-Air Intake for a bike with a normal air box that sits under the seat?

    Will it hurt performance?
Do you need to make the fuel mixture richer?

It's easy on an injected bike but tuning carbed bikes is notoriously difficult. The difference in conditions within the airbox between say redline in first gear (say 120kmh) and redline in fifth gear (say 240kmh) can lead to allsorts of tuning headaches.
I've got a ram air setup on my carbed R1 and it works well (after a dyno tune at Welly MC) but a lot of the crowd on another R1 forum I sniff around reckon it's not worth the hassle for what are relatively small gains.

The ram-air on my zx11 avoids the airbox and goes straight into the carbs. Gives you a few extra ponies at high speeds...

Found a diagram of the Ram-Air system on my bike which may be useful.

The air vents (2) have the ram-ar tubes in the centre and route over the top of the standard air intakes to the rear of the carbs (12).

I think the reason why it goes straight into the carbs rather than go through the air box is the high density pressure of the air from the ram-air intake pipes. However wouldnt the pressure need to be balanced on the other side of the carbs to prevent a vaccum ?

i'll be trying this mod on my mc22 when ive gotten my kit sorted out. I doubt it will do anything, but I want to tune it with free flowing intake and exhaust and its pretty easy to do (apart from tuning).
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot
