    2007 Hyosung GT250R speedo

While riding down the road at what my speedo says to be 55 k's i've noticed that I seem to be holding up traffic. This never seems to happen in my car, in fact its quite the opposite, its other people holding me up.

So I decided to do a simple test. I got a friend to drive my car behind me while I did exactly 50k's, and then we tried it at 100k's.

The conclusion of the test was that when I was at 50k's the car was only doing 44k's. When I was at 100k's the car said 88k's.

Now you might be saying "how do you know your cars speedo is correct". Well, I drove past one of those displays on the roadside that display your current speed. It said 54 and thats what my speedo said.

I'd like to hear from some other GT250R owners, and weather they have noticed this.

Or is it just my bike

    Cheers

It is rather common for bikes (especially smaller ones) to have an optimistic speedo.

To check its accuracy you really need to take a GPS unit out with you and it will tell you your true speed.

Just about every Hyosung owner will tell you that your speedo will be at least 5km/hr lower than whats on the dash.

Mine is 6km/hr but use 10km/hr as cant be bothered subtracting 6

It would be much appreciated if someone with GPS could post what the exact speeds are for 50 and 100.
From the trend we are seeing it would seem as though many of the GT250R top speed claims could in fact be along way out

be interested in hearing from anyone else with a non digital dash if they think the speed is out on theirs?

Over the weekend I'll do some speed tests against the car.

There are the sprints at the weekend - if the weather holds out, anyway. That could provide an interesting insight into shown vs actual since the whole point of the thing is to measure accurately. FWIW Dreamer rode a GT250 at 147 and I think she was showing 160 odd.

And watch those sulky faces when they discover the true speeds.
BusaJim was showing over 300k on speedo, but clocked at 276K.

I've always suspected my speedo of being between 5-10kph fast, so I always travel around 58kph in 50 zones and 110 in 100kph zones. I find I flow with the traffic much better doing this.

my GT250 analogue speedo is the opposite i think as i dont seem to hold up traffic but it seems that they are holding me back and it is reading under or just on 50. The other day I was riding up the hill from Orewa to Silverdale in the passing lane and I got pulled over and ticketed at 62km when my speedo was reading around 55. I didn't question the cop but was irked at getting ticketed for travelling the same speeds as the other cars in the passing lane and for forgetting that my speedo was reading wrongly. My flatmate is buying a GT250R in the next week or two and I'll ride beside him and test the differences between both of them and put on the GPS so we know how fast we are actually going.

I've been aware of this since I first got my bike. Mainly due to the fact that there are many of those Speed Reading signs on the side of the road in my area.

I've worked out mine to be around 5 - 7KPH out in 50KPH areas. I can only assume its the same at other speeds such as 70KPH and 100KPH. However, I haven't been able to do any accurate tests. I tend to ride at 107KPH on the motorway and I don't seem to hold anyone up.

I've seen those 'Speedo-healers' around and am curious if anyone has tried them or know if they work. Apparently digital speedos are reknowned for being out.

Edit: Haha, I just noticed that all 3 paragraphs I just wrote started with 'I've"... sigh, I'm really quite bored at work!

The sprints would be a good place to try it. Sadly I can't, I have less exciting shit to do.
I reckon its about 10% of the speed you are traveling at.
