    WTD: R1 Reg/Rec 98-01

Wanted: Working Regulator/Rectifier off carbureted R1, to replace shitty Honda OEM part which has just expired on my Blackbird. Not interested in Honda Reg/Recs, thanks.

    Cheers

The post-2002 reg/rec for the Blackbird is fine, problems completely solved. Buy it from www.jaws-motorcycles.co.uk/, 7 day service. Much cheaper than NZ. If you genuinely want the R1 reg/rec, this is the part number you want: Yamaha part no 4JH-81960-01-00. Get one from any of the US-based suppliers as they are much cheaper than here.

    Cheers

Does the post '02 Honda reg fit under the fairing? It looks friggin 'uge, and I notice that it is mounted in a different place on post '02 Birds, eg on the opposite side of the bike.
Have had an offer of an '05 R6 Reg/Rec in NZ, any ideas on if this has the same capacity as the R1 jobbie?
    Cheers for the help,

The upgraded version which has more cooling capacity does fit under the rear plastic. Send Freebird a PM, mentioning my name. He's a mate of mine in Wellington and he got a replacement from Jaws only a couple of months ago so he'll give you all the details. I haven't had the reg/rec fail yet but intend to replace it as a precautionary measure in the near future. However, I did have the alternator fail on a recent south island tour and had it rewound in Hamilton with heavier gauge wiring for $208 delivered (Honda OEM ~$800). You might want to file that bit of info away as alternator failures were not unknown on earlier models.

Can't help you with the R6 info, but you might find out by joining the free http://www.cbr1100xx.org/forums/index.php?act=home website. That's how I got to find out about the R1 reg/rec as there are quite a few posts on the subject. www.superblackbird.co.uk/ is also excellent and I've been a member since 2002.

Already a member of the CBR XX forum (Dufflad), and that's why I was looking for an R1 RR specifically. Have you noticed that the other recurring theme on Blackbird forums is the cam chain tensioner? Have you had any dramas therein?

Will look into the RR from Jaws, thanks for all the info.

Oh right! I'm Geoff James on that forum. I replaced my CCT earlier this year, a 30 minute job from woah to go. Got it from Jaws. I've done quite a few mods in the 6 years that I've owned the 'bird so if you want to email me at geoff.james@chh.co.nz, I'll send you a list of the "what and why".
