Best workshop? worst workshop

Just wondering what are the better shops to take your bikes to and what are some of the worst?

Im taking mine to holeshot at the moment. How do they compare with other shops for price/quality workmanship/ how long it takes them to work

Any thoughts please

hmmmmm. Close to my heart this one. I think its less the shop and more the actual mechanic working on your bike. Like everything else out there, there are some good dudes and some shockers. I prefer to do as much myself as I can. I reckon a rule of thumb to use to asses them is do they use torque wrenches for the important bolts? If they don't then I'd be suspicious :sneaky2: about what other corners they might be cutting.

Recently Cyclespot (need to to keep the VTR's warranty in check) who were fine. I turned up randomly recently for a small warranty repair and they sorted it on the spot which was good.

Otherwise I have always rated Spectrum's work. I don;t have an issue with what any of the bikeshopes charge - by the time you pay for tools, building rental, wages and everything else I think the $50/hour mark is fine.

How do they compare to holeshot? I rang up for a qupote on getting the carbs done and cylesspot quoted $250 and hole shot $150.....

Yeah well I guess that says a lot....have you asked Mt Eden? (being new Kwaka reps n'all I'm sure they'd love to service your ZXR...

One of the best shops I've taken my bike to is Kirkaldie & Stains. One of the worst is the Murchison tea rooms.

Actuall the best workshop I've used has been in my Garage. And now I'm reminded, the worst disasters have been there too

Dunno really, find some shop from whom you get a good feeling from, and go from there. Learn to do some stuff yourself, and ask here if you need further advice. Libraries have clymer and Haynes manuals, where are an excellent place to start.
Mt Eden have been good to me, and that bloke by Motomail seems to have a good rep especially with tyre stuff

Yeah, Kerry is good. Knows his stuff, and is good value (wonder he makes a living...). Doesn't do all bike work though.

I got a new rotor through spectrum. Ask them. $400.

Whats a rotor?

(member im kinda new to bikeing so dont know all this stuff i thought rotors were in rotary eninges.. )

And where abouts is spectrum?

I Dont know any of the shops apart from cycle spot and holeshot and atomic, but i thought that was just a parts store

Rotor = can be either the whole brake disk thingo, or just the disk itself. Depends whether it's one part, or a disk plus separate carrier (the bit in the middle that bolts to the wheel, that the disk is attched to by spool/rivet thingos.

Just a few metres up the road (North) of Holeshot, just down from the corner.
