Lowering footpegs for comfort (Blackbird in this case)

I wonder how many people love their sports or sport tourer bikes to bits but wish they had a slightly more conservative footpeg position for those long tours or events like the Southern Cross or the Grand Challenge? Well, I'm in that category with the Blackbird due to knee cartilage damage. When I'm in my looser-fitting touring pants, it's not too bad but my tighter fitting zip-together summer leathers with lots of armour make my knees ache after a relatively short while.

On one of the overseas Blackbird sites, I saw a thread about lowering brackets which drop the front pegs by about 20 mm. Makes a huge difference in comfort levels according to everyone who has a set and they can be quickly turned back to standard for trackdays etc. One of the 'bird enthusiasts in the USA CNC machines them from HT alloy with an anodised finish and they're a real work of art (see pics) - US$65 delivered to NZ. You can get rear pegs too to make the pillion's life a bit more pleasant.

Really looking forward to trying them out in a day or two. If anyone else has similar problems on other bikes, I'm sure that a specific bike website search will find similar mods. Hope that it's of interest.

No worries! Here's your link: http://www.bikersoracle.com/blackbir...light=footpegs

The first pegs mentioned are Buell ones which are naturally cranked down rather than being in line with the pivot. On the 'bird, there's a modest amount of bushing required with Buell pegs, but the special brackets which I just bought fit straight on. I've also got some links to the USA Blackbird site but you'll need a password so I'm quite happy to go in an pull off a few photos and send them to you in the next day or so if you want to PM me your email. You might find some references on overseas FJ sites too but at least it's given you some food for thought. Let me know if you want to to talk about it some more. I'll post a full evaluation when I've got round to fitting them.

    Cheers,

    Geoff
