vfr nc24 fork oil

just wondering if anyone knows the best weight fork oil to put in an 88vfr400r nc24? i think 10w is the factory spec but i have read in several places that a heavier weight is better and im not sure which weight to go for. any help would be great....oh yeah...i need to know the level for the fork oil too.. thanks

Hey I got the info you looking for at home. im at uni atm. ill send it to you when I get home.

yea its says 10w is recommended. and the oil level is 90mm. thats measured from the top of the tube with fork spring removed and the leg fully compressed. The picture I have doesnt say anything else about fork oil levels. If only I could remember the url to the pics you could have a look for yourself

hi cheers for that. i think ill just change the oil and put in some new 10w and see if it makes a dif. the fork seals have only been done recently and ive just bought the bike (has reciepts to show when done) im wondering if maybee a 5w oil has been used . im still yet to try preloading it. i hear 6-11psi is the range in which its safe.

just out of curiosity how much have you preloaded your front end?

Given the age of the bike it is highly likely there will be bushing wear internally in those forks which gives uncontrolled bleed. This will be most apparent with overfast rebound speed, so as a band aid fix it is likely to need a slightly heavier oil, 10 weight as a minimum.

Somewhere I have previously placed a post about how misleading SAE ratings are when it comes to determining suspension oil flow characteristics. For example the flow characteristics of 5 wt Silkolene are almost exactly the same as 10 wt Maxima. All is not as simple as it seems and good suspension tuners always request the centistroke rating of the oil
