    incredibly urgent advice needed

hi, just hours from the start of the highly anticipated rally pete's bike has decided to run on one cylinder, we have checked all the wiring and found the fault seems to be in a small black box, there are two of these things they contain a circuit board each, the bike is a honda nv 400, if these box thing are swapped over the non firing cylinder will work and the other cylinder doesn't, so we are ptretty convinced that's the problem, has anyone ever encounter this issue and what are those boxes called if i can get one before 9am we stand a remote chance of getting on the rally. I serioulsy detest murphies law

If i can remember correctly i had a similar problem with my NSR. The model i had used 2 CDI units and 1 failed which resulted in a problem like yours.

This is just a guess, good luck.

Sorry I can't help ya either ..... Are there any wreckers close to where you are now ??? .... I'll make a couple of calls here to some mates and see if they have any clues ....

If it is a cdi, you will have to find one of the same model bike you have.

If you have no luck, you could try bikes 'n bits here in Hamilton or i could ring them for you, they open 10:30.

Sounds like a CDI alright, they are bike specific and I'm not too sure about Honda interchangability - Honda Vtwins of that era often had twin plugs,so you need a twin plug CDI....Bros,Transalp,NV?,400 and 600 water cooled V twins, pretty close to each other.Ken Cairns is over in Raglan, but whether you can find him,if he'd want to help,if he had the part?????

what about a honda cx500 cdi --wont that sort it out?/
Im sure this is a bit late but sometimes -only sometimes a good clean and spray with contact cleaner and a couple of taps against the ground will make it work--it also makes ya feel shit loads better.

Make sure the faulty one has good clean grounds (earth attachment) and that the case is clean.

You have obviously opened it and it is not encased in resin. Look for a cracked soldered connection on components and the leads in / out of the box.

If that shows nothing. Hook everything up and get it running with the lid off the broken box. Get a wooden pointer (dry) and tap the components, it might start again and then you have found the loose component.

If it's fritzed though, it's fritzed.. They can be repaired but at a cost and only if you can get the components.

Shit of a thing to happen!

    Good luck
