MotoGP vs VMCC Round 6 - MotoGP wins

Difficult choice - pit crew at Philip Island and the MotoGp or race at VMCC Round 6?

Actually not that difficult at all when it came down to it!

Headed across to Philip Island Thursday last week and spent three days hanging out in the pits with the Kiwi 125 boys. There is a class called Aussie 125s which is a support class for the MotoGP. We had 4 entrants: Kirk, Adam, James and Sam. They'll write their own reports but I thought a few words from the pits might interest some.

I wasn't a hell of a lot of use, cleaned the odd visor, mixed some fuel, pushed a bike or two, put on and took off tyre warmers and that was about it. But I had a hell of a good time doing it!

    Highlights of the weekend:

    - a pit pass that isn't supposed to get you behind the scenes in the MotoGP pits but does (got up close and personal with Ant West, Alex Barros, Chris Vermeulen, and a few others. Got within arms reach of Casey Stoner and Rossi but I was too polite to touch...)

    - listening to SteveyB chat to famous people in a kind of pigeon italian/french kind of language - impressed me anyways

    - Sam Flynn's comment on the dummy grid when we heard Danny Pedrosa had binned his bike practising starts and delayed our race 'what a dickhead'

    - watching Adam kick some arse in the first race

    - watching Sam improve 2 seconds per lap in the first race

    - watching James write 'Adam was here' in the rubber marks on Kirks fairing after the second race

    - watching James kick some arse in the second race

    - watching Adam kick some more arse in the third race

    - hanging out in the Rizla Suzuki pit lane box while our boys were racing

    - finally getting kicked out of the MotoGP pits after the racing had finished on Sunday afternoon when Mel decided to steal one of the signs from above the pits

    - a million other things that I've forgotten

A brilliant weekend. Big ups to SteveyB and Mel for organising it all and huge respect for Adam, James, Kirk and Sam for getting out there and showing the Aussies that we do know how to ride a 125 over here. Can't wait for next year although I'm thinking I might have to get me a 125 and race it...
    Exploring pastures anew...

One or two I will mention

-The BEST navigator in Australia getting us from Melbourne to PI
-Dinner with Mr West and Mr Hopkins and the drunkiest Aussies in Aussie
-Lorenzoland is pretty damn close to Siberia stand
-Learning that drinking and frying truely do not mix
-Aussie customs only like frisking men!

The racing was fantastic from the 125s to the MotoGP....but seeing some of our kiwi lads out there was pretty damn awesome

My wife and I went to Phillip Island MotoGP in 2005, my 50th birthday present. We camped in the Trackside campground and ate our dinner to the distant bellow of the two-seater Ducati carrying the VIPs around. (Can anyone get me a ride on that thing?) Watched the race from the top bend, even though we'd bought tickets for the Gardner Straight grandstand. Fantastic! We'll probably go again in 2008. Or maybe the Superbikes. How do they compare?
