Manfield short circuit good lap time or no?

I'm looking at buying a zxr400 race bike

last weekend round mafield short it ran a 1 minute 28 best lap....

reasonably inexperianced rider but i know him and he aint too slow...this was on road tyres, it has slicks now,

now what i'm wondering is is a time like this competitive for say f3 racing....or will i need something quicker?

whats a reasonable lap time round manfield short, couldnt find anything on the net...

Well I used to do 1.29s in my standard 12A Mazda RX-7 on semi slicks if that helps lol.

A competitive time on Manfields short track on a 400 would be better than 1min 18s.

A guy I know on a basically stock ZXR400 who hadn't ridden for a while got 1:22 in that race.

The nutters on crazy SV650's in that race were getting 1:16's. The best of the rest on standardish bikes were getting 1:20.

So, no, 1:28 is not competitive, and slicks won't make the bike/rider go faster straight away.

ZXR400's make great 1st race bikes. They are very forgiving and great fun to ride as well.

i bought the motor for my zxr250 off him...hes a good fella i just dunno how competitive it will be.

Avalon..(yes a GIRL).. did 1:28...

both of these were on a 150.. street stock.... road tyres...

To be mid pack you should be down to 1.22-1.24.
If you get faster than that, you not going too bad at all!
There are not many 400's (well standard ones anyway) that can get under 1.20.

My best times on a completely stock ZXR400 was 1:18's with Pirelli Supercorsas. F3 lap record is 1:13's Anything under 1:22's is quick. Most SVs will do 1:16's easy.

fastest 400 in clubmans this year was about 1:22 average was 1:24-1:26....
a lot is to do with the rider, not the bike dude

I wouldn't worry about laptimes I would be more interested in if its in good mechanical condition, engine not blowing alot of smoke and reving cleanly.

If you want to spend 3 times as much you will go a bit faster and spend 10 times as much and you will be on par with the top nationals winning bikes.

Of course no point in having the best bike if you can't ride that well. So its better to have a bike and be learning the skillls. In some ways its better to have a cheap bike you can crash and it wont cost alot to fix. You also have to ride alot harder just to keep up and better than anyone else thats on a faster bike.

I'm more impressed by the guy that is quicker on a less competitive bike. Like Deano on his postclassic 400.

As far as laptimes go its more about comparing them to the best laptimes you have done. Once you get a baseline for you on a particular bike then you can see if your improving (or your improving the bike) after taking into account the track and weather conditions on that day. Very satisfiying to know your riding alot faster but frustrating when your getting slower.
