Ok so ive opend an email from a friend of mine with an attachment of the .zip kind.
i thought because its a friend it was ok. Turns out that my computer is sending emails to people randomly and to unkown addresses. Ive ran nortans and cant pik up anything.

Someone Help me before it spreads too far!!!!

you updated norton recently (or is it set to auto update??) you might want to try do it manually as well. Or run some spyware software it could be that. Sounds like a worm or trojun (spelling) of some variety.

I don't have any web addy's for you (someone will), but go to an online virus scanner, and do a complete scan.

You should also have a virus checker that checks all incoming and outgoing mail, as well as updating automatically online.

download lavasoft ad-aware and also spybot, they are freeware, and will get rid of any spyware, some of the spyware I've encountered recently is also a trojan. cheers L

try http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ for an online scan
they are pretty good

what mail client are you using? it may have installed a macro or a new mail rule if it is lookout... uh... outlook or outlook express

Yeah use Pegasus mail.

It takes a bit of getting used to but it’s much better than using anything micro$oft give ya. (Viruses and hackers target micro$oft program’s more than others.)

Yes - there are security holes in all things. (including pmail, forte agent etc) but Open Source generally means a faster and more transparent fixing process...

As an ex-McAfee employee, getting back to your point. What are the specific symptoms of your attack, and what is the email client, and how do you know that you are sending multiple emails?

Pegasus mail is great. Free and I’m a changed person because of it, but does anyone know how to stop sending a mail once you click send? A few times when emailing large files to my dad (he’s on 56k) I’ve sent the wrong file. Any Pail uses here?

It’s not too hard to use, its customer based so its designed by users for users and I think is the oldest email client out there? The hard part for me was setting up folders to put my mails in, and that only took 10 or so min’s (who reads those womanly help files anyway)

Im in the process of getting a new computer made at the moment and im using the olds one.
ive got all the bits just waitin for a friend ot put it together

they have nortons and it scans emails as they are sent out. it hasnt had its virus defanitions updated for a couple months as there subscription ran out. So it scans emails ivery 5 mins or so. im like hey i havent sent any emails.

i think its called the mubutu worm?
i ran the avg virus program but it cant remove like three of the viruses which are the i worm mubutu viruses.
one of them is in a dll file

My cus sold me "quick heal" which has been able to keep my computer free, also I dont like norton. My work uses two programs that are very fast and effective, but I for get the name, One was IV but I dont know what IV stand for. I'd use more than one virus scanner as there are none that are up to my expectation of getting rid of them, mainly because of the rate at which they come out.

NOD32 is the other one. Very good programme

IV is a real time virus stopper, Not good at getting rid of them, just wont allow new ones to be downloaded and stops the old ones from working, will notify about everything automatic which may be a bit of a bane but it puts you in the driver's seat for a change
