Motu in deep computer poo doo.

I've been in complete computer hell the last couple of weeks - first it refused to start up,so my in home computer experts fix was to reinstall XP...then the troubles started.I don't reckon it was my XP,probably one of his pirate discs, the firewall wasn't up,I couldn't find the firewall to make it work - all sorts of shit had been happening,I've had a 120% bandwidth warning...seems like I'm heavily into porn sites, they are all over my computer. He's had another look at it,cleaned up some shit, but it's so bad I can't work with it - just before I pulled the plug on it I shut 51 windows. We got my old 1997 IBM working with a fresh load of 98,that's what I'm using now,but it disconnects continuously...I'm lucky if I can post this on my first try.

My computer is ultra important to me - I can't issue WoFs without one, luckily I'm a bit quiet, but am turning work away.

Can someone come and have a look sometime?? My expert is a hardware man,he admits to not being clued up in software.Don't try and PM or email me,contact with the net is spasmotic - give me a ring on 625 9827 for those in Auckland.I'm gettingvery angry, this thing is close to being between a rock and a Pajero very soon. Thanks for any help - but don't expect polite ok?

Sounds like a virus... they are known to stop firewalls and antivirus bizzo... might pay to try an online antivirus program and a bug fix for "RPC"s

My tip to stop it reoccuring is:
Don't use Internet Explorer there are a number of security holes and exploits. It is easy for dodgy website to make your computer run malicious code and turn your computer into a zombie.

Mozilla firefox is a very secure browser and is a lot more flexable than IE

I believe that Firefox is also somewhat certified to view porn sites.

also use a firewall and keep your OS updated with the latest patches.

    Yikes

    Motu,

If renegade can't and nobody else comes to ya rescue, and ya still dog paddling in faeces this weekend, i'll put in an emergency call to my bro in Hammy.

Of course you might like to cover his gas, and he just bought an rx8 so it might be cheaper to buy a solid gold pc....

Actually i also have a mate in AK who could help.... you'll have to be able to PM me tho...!

Manuboy & Motu are talking right now.

Anyone else long distance got offers of help? PM me & I'll save you a toll call.

Whose world would that be? Certainly not mine.

And IE isn't responsible for EVERY problem, just AHellOfALotOfThem (copywrite FireStormer), particularly when involving the internet. Don't believe me? Google is your friend, look for yourself.

When I first started using firefox (well there was only Mozilla back then but you get what I mean). I intentionally went to a couple of sites that I found to contain nasties that autoinstall just by viewing the page. Was quite amusing getting these messages saying "suchandsuch can't install please open website in Internet Explorer, etc".

Yaeh, I had what you had... From all my crack sites (not that I would use them )

The best thing you can do is download a Registry Checker and Ad-Aware. So many things were on my comoputer, and I run a pretty tight ship
