Tyres, Mixing Brands?

Okedoke, this has more than likely been asked. In the past it has never bothered me, mixing brands from the front to the rear. But that was on dirt. For the road is it a wise thing or a big NO NO. I currently have a brand new Sport Demon on the rear, and a Battlaxe BT 45 on the front. I plan to put a Sport Demon on the front in the future. What are the BT 45's like as a tyre? What sort of tyre preassure should I be running in these. Its a FZR 250, 140 on rear I think from memory its a 100 on the front. Any sugestions would be great. :confused2

I'm sure you'll get some good answers from SWK here, but I'd strongly suggest that, if you haven't already, you ask this question of your favourite local tyre supplier. Kerry at Motohaus or one of the guys at Leading Edge should be able to opine with authority.

yip i think it had something to do with compatable tread patterns. Something about water displacement in the wet. I was running a gpr80 on the back with a mtr01 on the front of the zxr250 and it was all good.

Ran my VF500 the whole time I had it (7+ years) on mixed tyres. Don't see any big problem, as long as they're not WAAAAAAAAAY different (like a motocross tyre on the front, and racing slick on the back). On a bigger sportbike, with humungous nads, maybe.
But what do I know?

The type of tyre is more important than the brand. If you have an ultra-sporty front, then match it at the rear to avoid unpleasantness. Tyre profile is the main thing, though compound & such will be a factor. Check what tyres are homologated for the bike (usually found on a sticker on the chain-guard, or in the manual) and if they're the same type of tyre, you can probably mix them without worry. Failing that, ask at a specialist bike-tyre shop. I ran all sorts on an old RD350 YPVS without problems (with the tyres).

I can't imagine there's a huge difference in what's available for an FZR250, but a bigger (heavier, more powerful) bike which is trying to cover more sport & touring bases (older CBR600s, FZRthous, etc) will be different.

that'll explain partially why i had so many problems running the rear. the dam thing was a nightmare. took it off, problem fixed!
