    What to do?

In Orks for 5 of the 8 hrs between flights?

Off to China for a wee holiday.

I don't even want to know WHY there's 8 fuckin hours between flights... (well I do, I just want to hear it from someone I can hurt).

In at 17:00, out at 01:00, got to be back in the cattle pen by 11:00 though. Brief sojourn into town for dinner and a stroll around the waterfront p’raps?

I’m dreading the 10 hrs in the airborne cattle truck itself… must take drugs.

What date and how many of you?
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.

Oh just me and the other half, just need to NOT spend it sitting in departures. She won't be interested in going too far but I thought there might be a decent eatery handy.

A simple solution might be the Skytower restaurant, reasonable food and a view thrown in....

Otherwise I know this dodgy indian restaurant in Hillsborough?

What about going to the pub with as many KBers as are keen to turn up....you'll probably need a holiday after that lot.

    Roger that but when?
Cab fares into town and back again will cost a small ransom.
Might be able to arrange something.

Hmm, she's been there several times but I haven't...

Thank you both, but Mrs O1 would decline to impose. A cab it may well have to be anyway, I plan to be half comatose before I get back...

If its a week night it'll take about 40-50 minutes to get into the city at that time, and cost around $100 all up by taxi.

There is a mini golf course at the airport!

Take the bus. It'll take you to the sky tower.

Taxi to the Crow Bar at 26 Wyndham Street downtown. Drink your way through the cocktail list and brew up a killer sore head for the flight. They've spent a decade making the best cocktails in Auckland and they are always empty before midnight. Private basement ambience, great place to talk shit with the bartenders. Call them on 09 366 0398 to check opening times, though; I have a feeling they might not open until 7pm.

[Edit: They used to have a Christmas card from John Gotti behind the bar. Apparently he was in Auckland a few times and it was his favourite place to drink. He put them on his card list when he was in jail.]

If you prefer a pub with really good beer around central Auckland, go to Galbraiths at the intersection of Mt Eden and Symonds Streets.

Are you heading to HKIA? On that route I like to furtively turn my cellphone on over Darwin, pick up roaming coverage from 30000 feet, and send txts for shits and giggles. "I can see your house from here" etc. Don't let the nice ladies with the drinks trolley catch you, though.

I figure if he gets in at 5 it'll be 45 mins to town... and I would provide transport so no taxi fare involved...hey I never turn down an oppotunity to dine at swashies... LOL

Except...I have a feeling it clashes with my Buell rally/Sth Is tiki-tour eh Ocean?

Give us a bit more info and we can probably get a selection of suggestions together....any particular types of food, pub or good restaurant and do you really want a walk or would rather eat & drink with a view.
On a sunday it's about 30 mins and $50 (bit of a guess) in a taxi one way to the city but everything decent is in that area so unless you want 8 hours in the duty free you're going to have to pay it.

What time of day (almost forgot that!)?

    Iain
