So does this mean you could pay off your student loan with the credit cards (or just live off them to enable paying off the loan), declare yourself bankrupt and be back in the black 12 months later? Bonkers.

yeah seems too easy. Can't see how they could stop it. Most credit card companies will give up to $10000 to anyone working a average wage so could be all on (the credit card that is).
