    Bigger issue than fuel price rises

    This is far more important than the cost of petrol:

    The actions of the eco-mentalists are coming back to kick us where it really hurts.

    Oh no - now it'll cost me $1.50 a litre to make, instead of $1.40!

    Oh well.......

    Will make a good case for growing weed in the future I guess... That stuff grows about anywhere, in cupboards, cellars, garages, etc. Crazy stuff eh.
    It is preferential to refrain from the utilisation of grandiose verbiage in the circumstance that your intellectualisation can be expressed using comparatively simplistic lexicological entities. (...such as the word fuck.)

    Serious issue, though - the whole fuel must contain x% biofuel is likely to impact globally - Europe does not have enough land to meet their quota and so they are getting third-world countries - that can't even properly feed themselves - to produce it for them. Now, you are el Presidente of some Banana Republic and you have a choice of growing food crops for your millions of already-starving people or growing lucrative biofuel crops that will keep you in Columbian Marching Powder and enable you to invest in more works of art that can be easily converted to good ol' US dollars when you have to flee your country and take refuge in the USA. What do you choose?

    The mathematics of biofuel are controversial and arguably not as sound from a "carbon-footprint standing as the proponents would have you believe, so arable land that could be used for crops humans can actually eat is given over to biofuel production so some wankers can say "aren't we good, we're cutting down on carbon emissions be cause we used up carbon to grow the fuel crops."

    Biofuel == Utter fucking bollocks.

    It won't just be beer that's affected, it'll be food crops as well. Less land for grazing stock that supply meat, milk, wool, leather, blood-and-bone fertiliser etc etc; less land for dry-feed crops for the aforementioned grazing stock; less land for food crops for humans.

    Fair enough produce as much biofuel as possible out of waste products - we have a pretty good system here in NZ whereby the useless whey pumped out by our dairy industry can be converted into biofuel. Expand that to deal with other organic refuse and grab what you can to supplement fossil fuels but fuck taking acres of land - best used to grow Barley or hay or Watties peas - to grow inedible shit for biofuel just to hit some magical percentage that'll appear "sufficiently eco-friendly" to some dumb-arsed civil servant who has fudged the figures to begin with.

    There's nothing fucking "eco-friendly" about pricing food and beverages off our fucking tables.

    Convert waste to biofuel - it has the advantage of making a greater amount of use of the "carbon absorbtion" that already occurs in the process feeding us - as well as getting rid of a lot of rubbish we would need to use expensive or nasty processes to get rid of in other ways.
