Just to burst ya bubble.... that ferry is probably ratepayer funded despite calling it a 'free' service, costs $$ to run, so someone pays for it one way or another. Be it taxes, rates or company sponsorship from which they fund it via revenue. It comes down to citizens funding all these 'free' things we think we get from Govt or council etc etc.

For those that rent their homes, they also pay rates via their landlords collecting rent and then paying their rates to council.

The point I am making is this, that nothing is free and we usually pay for everything - whether we use it or not through purchases (company revenue) or through taxation or levies (govt and council).

Air will be taxed next... via this govts desire to be 'greener', our carbon charges to companies like power co's will be passed onto consumers to pay for.... so in order to have cleaner air...we will in fact indirectly pay for that too.
