BTW I have noticed 95%+ of the losers I deal with smoke - but that does not say all smokers are losers...hmmm...
and 100% of all wife beaters are drinkers... your point is?

Get rid of the smokers, and the government will come looking to take it from your pocket!
Since you've got all the stats, can you fill us in on how much of that goes on health care for smokers (both active and passive) - and sweeping up butts?

Oh - and perhaps how much of that tax is actually paid for out of the unemployment benefit ... I'm not taking a jab at the unemployed here, but I suspect there's a correlation.

There's also presumably a bunch of kids who don't get the food/care they should because the money is spent on tobacco, and that's another cost on society.

I can accept that the tax may still be a net gain, but for improved health of society in general I'd still go for it.

    Feel that love eh!

Damn, you smokers must have had quite a shitty day. Had I known that I'd provoke so many angsty(as in the contemporary, not the philosophical meaning) reponses I think I'd put it under Jokes and Humour instead.

But why should you be different than any other minority. If one of your brethren gets a lashing, no matter the reason, it's all of the sudden all about YOUR cause and how everyone are stomping your holes.

Honestly, carbonmonoxide poisoning is vastly overrated. You just fall asleep, turn grey and die unless someone gets you outta there. If I was to commit suicide I think I'd do the world a favour and take a few smoking crims down with me at the very least.

But now you mention it there seems to be a high percentage of losers who smoke AND drink.

None. Well none that you can prove anyway. The consolidated fund is just that. It's the same with ACC levies and petrol tax. None of that goes back into roading or road safety either, well none that you can prove.

I wonder what the "acceptability" scale of chucking things out of your car window is?

    Cig. butt? yes/no?
    Coke can? yes/no?
    Burger wrapper? yes/no?
    Household rubbish? yes/no?
    Remains of renovated bathroom? yes/no?
Shredded body of last smoker whose butt hit your visor? yes/no?
Measure once, cut twice. Practice makes perfect.

I have actually stated earlier that I am a lesbian trapped in a mans body, so no surprise there I suppose.

I do however not like lettuce that much.

So after having dropped off my better half I find myself sitting at some of the very very slow lights on my way out to Uni. The car in front of me, a red Supra, all of the sudden expels a smoking cigarette butt right out onto the road.

Now, I can get quite ranty about shithead drivers who can't wrap their heads around efficient traffic flow, who doesn't care to look or indicate before turning or changing lanes, etc. I also find it bad manners to smoke in your car unless you keep your windows closed. Usually I don't get pissed off enough to actually do something about it. ...but not today!

Knowing that the lights are usually red for quite a time I got out of my car, a bit shaky since I was pissed off. Walked up, picked up the butt, handed it back to the fat bitch (sorry, but she was actually) saying "Sorry, I think you dropped something." She replied "Oh, thank you." Walked down and got back into the car. Man, I was pissed off. The way some people behave, either they are completely oblivious to the fact that there's a world out there that they have to share with the rest of us or they simply don't give a fuck.

Funny though, that this was what it took to set me off enough to actually go out and address the issue.

So how's your day been so far?
Hey i didnt see you stop for the rubbish thay 4wd threw out the window on the 2 weekends ago going to sumner.
guess you did have a bad day .
Have to catch up at another stage

Yeah, that was a nice day indeed.

Although I was tempted to go after the guy I didn't actually see him throw it, so couldn't be totally sure. Also, stopping in the middle of traffic to pick up trash might not be that healthy
Actually... I think it might be more unhealthy than smoking...
